I smell something fishy. Half these "tuners" are just a chip that makes the engine run lean. Good for HP, bad for engine longevity.

Tuned as in a piggy back probably. If there was a way to tune the engine with a Cobb or something of the sort, we would know about it by now.

Or you could just stop by while my truck is there and watch the dyno for yourself. It will be there till next Friday.

I started programming in.... 1975. I've seen this done with my very own eyes.... I dumbed it down some to make a point. The point is its been done and can be done. Jesus if I was going to write out a tutorial on how to do it I'd be doing it and not chit chatting with.... Jibberish really that's all you got?

Tell me how much experience you have with compilers .... that's how it done. That's pretty basic stuff there. Assembly language most likely then compiled to machine language and flashed to the chip, then chip into ECU.

The chip is the limiting factor for size in this case...

You want a line by line bullshit analysis? You got it.

    > How do you know the ECU is encrypted??

It is a commonly-known fact that Toyota does not want people messing with ECU logic. Same goes for nearly every other vehicle manufacturer, from motorcycles to agricultural equipment.

    > ECU is probably in some sort of machine language

ECU is a piece of hardware. It is not "in" some sort of language. The ECU's instructions are in machine language. And not "some sort," either.

    > that doesn't "look" like traditional code

Something is either code, or it is not. It can be used by the architecture in place, or it cannot. This is not smoke and mirrors, there is zero room for "looking like" ambiguity. And what, exactly, is "traditional code?" Jesus...

    > it has to be flashed in and out

    Hey, something accurate!

    > when flashing out then put data thru an interpreter and vola - code to work with...

First - voila. Second - no, that's not how encryption works. Third - an interpreter is not a magical translation tool; it's a piece of software used to execute code without compiling it.

    > edit code

    Oh, that was easy.

    > then back thru interpreter to machine language

    Just... fail.

    Yeah...

Must be the first time in the history of humanity that some easily-commercialized "basic stuff" is not being taken advantage of to make someone money.

Not really. Other modern era trucks can be tuned.

Folks just have to figure out what is and isn't available.

The hardware and software now exists to rear and write to the NEC processors used by Toyota.

No one has cracked Toyota's computer encryption, if they have, they would be selling thousands of tunes and up grades for this truck all over the place.

Following, I have tuned everything I have ever owned I think from old z71 trucks and burning proms to my new Harley with handlebar mounted flash tuning. Not sure if the new tacos are running external TCMs or if they are intergrated into the complete ECM, but if they are integrated into a tune-able ECM then that may be a start on tuning out some of these funny shifting autos everyone seems to hate.

mine is there now having the tsb done, but no matter what toyota is going to tune these motors for fuel mileage and to be compatible for what the EPA wants. I dont have emmision testing in my area and I would much rather run whats best for the egine and power instead of what the EPA mandates. Incase most people dont know what the EPA is forcing on these motors they run very lean which in turn is very very hot.

It took about 4 years to get VWs encryption cracked. That was multiple companies with multiple experts working on it. Before that they shorted out the ECU which allowed it to be tuned. VWs encryption can now be "cracked" but VW can detect it, and when the dealership does you have no more warranty.

    That goes for most manufacturers.
