    Ah ok. I thought it was powered mechanically off the camshaft and that’s why the engine is not compatible with the vacuum pump type. I’ve long been confused by this and never have gotten under the hood for a deep dive.

    The vacuum pump is mounted to the right cam tower and is driven by the right intake cam. That action provides vacuum for the vacuum brake booster on models that have it.

    The hydraulic booster on OR/Pro trims is electronically powered.

    Due to the lack of a vacuum pump on the engines installed in hydraulic booster equipped trims, they use a block off plate to cover the void in the cam tower left by the missing pump.
