    This is my 2004 Toyota Tacoma XtraCab 3.4L V6 Manual 4x4 SR5 TRD Offroad in Lunar Mist Metallic.
    I bought it brand new in 2004 with 22 miles on it (some of which were my test drive).

    Two years after I bought it I put my first lift on. Unfortunately I went cheap and put on spacers up front and extended shackles in the rear. I think it only took me a year to get sick of the ride so I decided to spend the money and get Icon Coilovers (then Donahoe).

    Ride was so much better after putting on the Icons. I think I put them on in mid 2007 and have had to get them rebuilt once in late 2010 because one was leaking. I keep the old ones around with the spacers still on as backups now. Came in handy when I sent the Icons in for a rebuild.

    Shortly after I upgraded the front suspension I decided the rear leafs were looking a little flat.

    I made it about 35k miles before I got antsy and wanted new tires. I went with 265/75R16 Cooper Discoverer STT. They were a great tire, I didn't really off-road at all when I had them, but I was very happy with how they handled in rain and snow. And they looked great.

    The only issue I had with them was that they got real noisy after they wore down a little. Probably compounded by the fact that like an idiot I didn't once rotate them. So they only made it 30-40k miles.

    Since I wasn't off-roading at all at the time I went with 265/75R16 Firestone Destination A/T after that. Also a great tire. I have about 44k miles on them now and they have 5-6/32's left on them. Very quiet on the road even now, excellent wet traction, good in the snow and ice. I have been impressed with them off-road. They have made it through Rausch Creek several times aired down to 22psi and so far I only have a chunk missing from one sidewall and it still holds air fine. Not the greatest in any kind of sticky mud since they don't clean out at all.

    Summer of 2011 I decided to to get some new wheels. I wanted black wheels and to stop using the 1.5" wheel adapters (or spacers if you prefer) I had to get the stance I liked. I went with 16" Pro Comp Extreme Alloy 8069 w/4" backspacing.

    I mounted my 48" High-Lift jack on the passenger side of the bed. I was able to position it so that I could still work the clamps for my Torza-Top tonneau cover. I used some square tube bolted between the bed rails and the the bed and a couple quick fist clamps.

    Before my first trip to Rausch Creek I got myself some skid plates. I went with Skid Row skid plates. Mainly a Jeep shop they only make skids for 1st gen Tacomas. For a 1st gen the choices were either Budbuilt or Skid Row (I think some others may have started making them now). I preferred the stronger design of Skid Row's front skid over Budbuilts (support at the bend in the middle) and the three piece design vs. Budbuilts two piece design. I was also able to get them locally through a Jeep shop that sells Skid Row products for about the same cost as Budbuilts and they come powder coated.

    I bought just the front and transfer case skids so the front and middle of the truck were covered thinking I wouldn't be getting myself into anything bad enough to need to cover the gap in between. Well the last trip to Rausch Creek proved that theory wrong as the crossmember there has a nice dent in it now. I'm also not a big fan of where the front skid ends, the steering rack is a bit exposed. So I plan on getting the transmission skid at some point.

    At some point after I got the lift and tires I scored a deal on a used set of Demello Rock Crusher bolt on sliders from a member on TTORA who wanted to build his own sliders. These things are SOLID. I have come down hard on them several times and there is nothing but scratches on them.

    Since they come straight out flat they are easy to stand on and can be used (awkwardly) as a high step for getting in.

    They are also wider than the side panels of the truck. So using them to pivot around a large rock or tree is easy.

    If you look at the picture above of the sliders off the truck you'll see each leg has an L (except for the front most one). The L goes against the side and bottom of the frame. Each leg gets a large bolt through the frame with a large, thick backing plate on the back side. Then each L has two self tapping bolts that go through the bottom of the L up into the frame. You have to drill pilot holes for each of the self tapping bolts. And if I remember correctly only the front bolt through the frame on each side needs a hole drilled on one side of the frame. Every other bolt uses pre-existing holes. It's really pretty easy to install with just a drill, sockets, and a right angle drill (or adapter which you can get for $20 at home depot or lowe's). Here's a pic I had that shows part of the mounts.
