Exactly. Don't fuck up your credit and you're fine. I'd rather finance a car than pay out of pocket. Is it cheaper to buy outright? Sure. But I don't care one bit. My debt consists of a house, car and a motorcycle. I'm ok with that.

I'm curious how many people in this thread are 100% debt free and financially stable? Haha

"Money doesn't matter!" (Is 50k in debt...) haha

Saying money doesn't matter is dumb even if you're debt free. My debt consists of normal items. My credit card debt is zero. I have a mortgage and a couple autos. Even if I didn't have those debts (the Tacoma is my first car payment in 6 years), money would still matter. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

Peeps were talking credit scores and finances. Just pointed out that it doesn't matter if you have an 815 credit score and don't care about losing 1k a year in fuel if you're too dense to get out of debt.

And I get the OPs point, but it doesn't tell the whole story. So $1000 a year isn't that much of a difference (to him). But one, of you apply that thinking to every other aspect of your life the difference in going out to eat and fuel and new gadgets all adds up to many thousands of dollars wasted a year. And two, the MPG debate isn't just one within the mpg range of Tacomas considering a large number of people on this forum only drive them on pavement anyway ha. So the difference in vehicle cost, maintenance cost and fuel cost could also be thousands less per year.

I want to see a pic of your MPG when the fuel gauge is near E. Showing us a pic after filling up is a complete con job.

Next time I drive cross-country I'll try to remember.

I think you and others are failing to understand how the MPG gauge in the dash works. Its an estimated MPG average based on a full tank of gas and driving efficiency. This is why the gauge resets after you fill up the tank. Therefore you can only get an accurate MPG reading in the dash after filling up the gas tank. As soon as you start city driving that average will drop, if you get back on the highway and hit the cruise control, it will slowly rise again but never to its highest reading. So its really there to gauge your driving efficiency not the efficiency of the engine.

So the picture I posted shows is how efficiently I was driving, but in my case I was only steering as the cruise control was modulating the throttle. So yes, In my 30-min drive on the highway with cruise control set, I achieved 24.9MPG driving efficiency. Not sure how you can see that as a 'con job'

If you want more info, read pg 94 in your manual.

I see your point, BUT. I filled up at a gas station and ran strait I-95 south for 4 hours....19 mpgs of cruise control.

No, not at all. I completely understand how the gauge works. I don't even care if your mileage is real of faked. The difference between your 25MPG and my 18 is a cup of coffee every day... or if I save up all year by driving around like a ninny... I can get myself a nice pair of sneakers. The (seems like) 8 million posts bitching about how terrible the fuel economy is are f**king silly. You can struggle all you want to increase efficiency. Your window of improvement is about $1.65 per day give or take based on average annual mileage between your worst lead foot and your best downhill run. All these idiots claiming to be selling a 3 month old truck to go buy another truck to get 10 more MPG and spending 15k in cost and depreciation to get there are harshing my mellow. Like I said... ENOUGH WITH THE MPGS already.

So you ran it straight on cruise control with no stopping, slowing down or speeding up?

I agree with you, but if everyone understood the gauge these threads wouldn't pop up every month. This kind of gauge works the same on all vehicles, therefore you may swap out to a different truck and in reality only gain 2-3mpg more.

Good point, the difference is the competitors offer different ways to view mpg. On my sierra it has current/last 25/last150/last500. Or something like that. Pretty cool feature. Not sure if I like the way the Taco does it.
