I haven’t seen a post laying this all out so I figured I’d save a ton of us the research time and lay out the options we have in one thread.

Please don’t use this post as a place to debate each one. There’s plenty of posts for that. Only add info to what I’ve said/correct me if I’m wrong.

If you know of any other/better options please enlighten us.

The options Ive found for upgrading the 2019 and earlier HUs on 3rd gen’s boil down to the 5 following.

    1. You add an adapter that adds CarPlay/android auto both wired and wireless to your current HU for about $200. It works well but the resolution is so low on that HU it doesn’t look the best. The audio quality is also a little iffy. It does work tho. That’s what I’m currently running and I’m ok with it. CARabc Wireless Carplay Android Auto Retrofit Kit Decoder for Toyota Highlander/RAV4/Tundra/Tacoma/Camry/Corolla/Avalon/Prius/CH-R/Sienna 2014-2019 with Entune2.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPSLHDLJ

    2. You add the Joying HU from Amazon. This is basically an android tablet the fits great in the Tacoma dash. Adds CarPlay and a whole host of functions but it is Chinese cheap tech and has been known to have issues/be glitchy. It has a volume knob tho! About $400. 3. You add and aftermarket HU, Pioneer,Alpine etc. You have a good bit of options that will add a lot of functionality plus good audio quality but they are all small and you’ll need adapter plates to fit in the dash. That’s typical for aftermarket in any vehicle tho. You’ll also lose your volume knob and have to downgrade to the annoying volume buttons with most of them.

    4. You upgrade to Entune 3.0. You’ll gain CarPlay/AA and retain your volume knob. You can spend 2k for new from infotainment.com or try to find one on eBay/junkyard and buy the harness from Autoharnesshouse. If you want to retain the Nav/audio info in the screen between the gauges you have to make sure you get the right HU plus nav computer and harness from auto harness house. Finding this for a reasonable price on EBay is tricky. Price varies but I’d expect at least $1000 when it’s all said and done.

    5. Get the Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX. It sits super clean in the Taco dash. Biggest screen you can get. Great HU, great look. Great audio quality. You’ll retain audio info in the gauge screen(no nav info). But it will require a fair bit of install work to make sit flush, it doesn’t have a volume knob only buttons, and you’re looking at about $1400 full install if you get all the right parts from Crutchfield. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-TAvoy...aBgVg-1Og-YU3_y3M_apUlEltZQ-fAlhoCKnAQAvD_BwE

If anyone knows of any better options please enlighten me.

There is also the Stinger Heigh10 with the Tacoma specific kit. Amazon has it on sale for about $1k now. 10" screen, OEM look, AND a volume knob, ha.

Good idea to consolidate the data.

For option 4 (upgrade to Entune 3.0), could you post the different part numbers? I think there are 4 options: Non-JBL/Non-Nav; Non-JBL/Nav; JBL/Non-Nav; JBL/Nav. I think some Sienna radios will also work (they have there own P/N). Would be good to have this info in a consolidated thread.

I will also vouch for Trail Grid Pro. Great service and support. They have HU bundles that are plug and play. I’m pretty satisfied with my Sony HU too. Great sound quality and all the other features work as they did before.

30 minutes and you’ll be done. It took me 40 minutes because my Entune 3.0 had more than expected wires and I plugged one in wrong but a quick call to Trail Grid Pro and I got it sorted out.

How is option 5 different from option 3?

Seems you're gaming your own debate by insinuating that option 5 is entirely different from any other aftermarket option.

I agree would be good to have those options consolidated. I don’t know the part numbers but if someone does please add
