Entune is embarrassingly bad...

It does if you hit it hard enough

Edit: I get the nav is old, but I've used it a few times and although it doesn't look amazing, it's very easy to use and does the job and isn't distracting

Yeah - I'm Android and it's absolutely flawless so far, had the truck less than a year. I guess it's a tribute to the trucks that people here nit pick the smallest things. You should spend a little time on the various Land Rover forums for a breath of air from the dark side.

I relate auto manufacturer's attempts at infotainment much in the same way that I look at the smartphone market in the mid-2000s: it was great for the time, until something better came along that fundamentally changed how we interact with a screen. If you don't know any better (which isn't meant as an insult), then systems like Entune are fine. They are certainly better than they were ten years ago, but CarPlay and AA make Entune feel like it belongs ten years ago.

You want to route all your diagnostics and warnings through a head unit, fine. But let the public do most of the interaction with said head unit in the way they interact with their smartphone. Stop locking it behind trim levels, pushing it off five years after you should have implemented it, and don't charge a fee to unlock it. Stop charging yearly fees to update maps when I can just display Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze in my dash. Traffic is my big want for something different, and Waze is my weapon of choice.

Or stop designing dashes where it's nearly impossible to put something aftermarket in (my Acura says hello).

Totally agree with the maps piece, but I don’t see the value of CarPlay outside of this.

More audio sources that you can access directly on the head unit for one. You can always pick from your phone, but many places make it illegal to do so in motion. Faster updates for everything, better voice recognition/usability (particularly over the crappy UConnect MOPAR units), etc.

If it's not for you, then great.

    Working on it ...
I went from a 2002 TRD extended cab With a AM FM radio, cassette player and single CD player - to my current 2019 TRD sport double cab. Man I miss that cassette player :) .

what I have now is the “JBL premium unit”. I am not 100 sure what is exactly premium about it, other than that I guess it does have a big speaker behind the backseats and it has navigation. Truthfully I was doing fine with the Garmin unit I had jammed in my ashtray on my 2002 but the new one does have a bigger screen and seems to do OK with directions for the limited amount I have used it (only I’ve had the truck three weeks tomorrow). So sound wise, quality wise, yes it is certainly an upgrade over my 2002 Tacoma. Hands-down. But it leaves a lot to be desired from what I’ve seen in other manufactures of vehicles. I always wonder why they just can’t upgrade the stupid units (like add CarPlay or android play, etc.) via some sort of software upgrade/download. They do it to update the maps for Nav.

But we have to remember that we (I) did not buy these trucks for their Entertainment/infomat features. We bought them because they are dang good trucks and if taken care of they will last us 12 to 15 years.

    My 2 cents worth.

One of the big advantages is that there are significantly less limits on what can be developed for it in the future. Carplay and Android Auto capable systems are essentially mini OSs that will continue to have software developer and updated for them. Ideally we should be able to just download said updates OTA and instantly have new features. This is the future of this technology.

It is all subjective, believe it or not some think the Tacoma is crap also. Apple is good, Android is good, Microsoft is good also. Why people feel the need to disparage a product they do not use is beyond me.

The head unit supports both Android and Apple.

Apple and Android are both bad. Which is badder depends on which you have.

Granted my truck ownership of this is only a few weeks, but mine seems to work fine. Synced my iPhone in no time, contacts etc. Streamed music from it complete with album art, song title etc. I don't have the GPS option but use my phone for that anyway.
The only question is there a way to add more apps onto it? I see from other photos some have Pandora and other apps.

I've reinstalled entune 3.0 on my phone repeatedly, tried various attempts at getting any apps to show, checked for new software for HU. All with zero results. Hours of staring at the HU hoping something different will happen. All the while thinking I'm missing something by not having those 4-5 apps to use.
Truth is, I'd never used them before and doubt I would ever. For me, it's the promise of paying for the latest greatest life improver. "Your driving experience will improve ten-fold if you listen to i-heart". Don't see it happening. Ever. The dealership guys chuckled at my questions. One said, who in the hell wants those apps, they're shit. So true.
I do however use available Android auto apps with solid results. Google maps works fine, Amazon audio, podcast apps etc, all work.
Doubt auto manufacturers will ever be on the same timeline as after market, but at least with SiriusXM, carplay and Android auto they're giving us the simplistic working minimum built it.

After three years of Sirius/XM in my '17 Limited, just for shits and grins, I decided to try Spotify through my JBL Entune system today. Got the mandatory upgrade on the radio, downloaded the app to my Samsung and it worked perfectly. Did I do something wrong? I have nothing to bitch about. I'm disappointed as I know I'm letting quite a few of you guys down.

10 years ago on my college days... a friend of mine had a 2door land cruiser prado with a Pioneer DVD, one din and mechanical screen that hid itself with the press of a button.

I SWEAR to GOD that the 2.0 entune is the SAME THING as that Pioneer OS used at that age..

Hmmmm....mine works fine. Bluetooth connects every time. Hands free phone works great. The weather map is pretty handy for driving in the stormy midwest in summer. Tells me where the cheapest gas is. The ECO tab is pretty entertaining to watch when I am babying it. The only thing that doesn't work for me is the maintenance app. That and XM sound could be a litle better.

Coming from an F150 with Sync, I'm pretty happy.

I have wireless CarPlay in my 2018 via a Pioneer headunit and it is flawless. Connects instantly when the radio starts and works like a charm.

I haven't even tuned a radio station on the entune stuff. I don't even know how bad it is.

I just wish the android auto was wireless because that's all I have ever used and plugging it in causes it to have little skips of the music and its much better if I just used the bluetooth.
