I do have a portable Garmin for my wife and that is user friendly. I use the Nav nearly everyday and haven't had that many problems. I have noticed that driving through different states the info isn't as good. I've traveled through Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. I only really utilized the Nav system the most near Omaha Ne and Columbus Ms. Just started using it a lot in New Jersey with very little problems. Some not as busy areas have been a little more difficult to navigate through where I have not had issues with the Garmin. Maybe where you live in Utah sucks as far as the database goes which is crap because you paid for navigation for your needs not where Toyota thinks they should have more detail. All in all not the best system as far as GPS goes but still better to have in dash than mounted on the windshield for me.

Its either the data base or garmin has patents on some software?

But yeah it is crappy here.

For instance and address here could be 5700 West 4398 South. When you search it thinks the address is west 4398 south. but it is 5700 west then 4398 south. It tries to put 3/4 of the address in the address line and it just screws things up.

The other thing i really really hate is it does not look up by distance. So her in Utah if you start your search for instance with 300 South it brings up every city that has a 300 South and well this is Utah so every friggin town has a 300 south. And it starts the list alpha by city name.

Anyone have any success with the voice activated navi address search? I don't know if mine is f'ed up or what but that sucks.

If you search the address with the phone only using the entune app you can use bing to find addresses through the internet. this is easier to use then the address function inside the truck. when you find it with your phone while not connected to the truck you can save them and when you enter the truck you can download them from your phone. This has helped me find a lot of addresses before even getting into the truck and is useful.

One trick I learned a long time ago is to use the previous destination feature. You can always pull up any pre-dest while moving. I use it to store places I have not even been to yet that I know will be in my future.

Just picked up my 2014 trd or, dc. I went with the entune navigation (no jbl).

Took my first long trip with it yesterday and I have to say, the GPS is really awful. I wish I would have gone with the base unit and added an aftermarket gps.

In my prior truck, I had a $100 garmin unit that I bought in 2004 and had never updated and it actually has better maps than the new entune gps. Driving to an address in north dakota in a town of 100k+, on a street that has been there for at least 40 years and the entune maps didn't have it. As soon as I turned off of the main road connected to the interstate it started showing me just wondering around in grey nothing and stopped giving turn directions.

The point of interest search is really lacking when it comes to gas. On the garmin I used to search for fuel and it would give me a list of the nearest gas stations that would update as I moved. I like to push my tank down to the E when driving and always used that when I got close to pick a "drop dead" gas station to go to. With entune it gives me one page at best before telling me I have to stop to find more so I can never get to see stations coming up about 20 miles away.

The estimated arrival time and time left in the trip is also really pathetic. Driving from fargo to bismarck on i94, the gps knew that the speed limit was 75 (it displayed it for me) I was traveling 85, yet it insisted on estimating remaining trip time by taking miles remaining divided by 65. the 10 year old garmin is way more accurate. I could call folks and tell them its estimated arrival time and usually be within a couple of minits if I stuck within speed limit +/- 5.

oh how I wish I had taken this advice. doing so would have had me waiting even longer for the truck so I thought what the hell, it can't be that bad. wrong!

yep, not a fan of it in my wife's rav4. the music portion of the new head unit is nice, but the navigation is crap.

I've been using the GPS a lot for the last couple weeks. I like it. I haven't had any problems and the gas app works great. The web search feature is nice too. My only gripe is the safety feature that locks you out when moving. Usually my wife is with me and she can type while I drive. At the end of the day, I'm really happy I opted for the Nav unit, granted, I paid cost not the crazy amount they were asking.

I have the nav, gotta say I haven't even used it. It's not Google maps is it? Should have gone to Google.

I totally agree, awful is the word id use to describe it as well. at first glace I thought the JBL and entune was cool at the dealer, first few days it was cool too.

Now I hate it , really wish I went aftermarket .

The ipod function sucks to , always seems to freeze up and I have to unplug and replug .

    What a disappointment.

I wonder if the 2014s were updated. I have had mine for 1 week. I find the nav to be intuitive, easy to use, and efficient. The voice commands work well also.

Mine too. The Bluetooth pairing fails then it won't let you reconnect until you stop. Stupid nanny. I have a passenger who can deal with this why should I have to stop?

Must be your voice? I think the voice thing sucks squirrel balls. When I first got it it would always correct the state to Puerto Rico. Yeah like I am really to to fucking drive there from Utah?

Just keep on complaining to the dealer about it. I ended up getting multiple updates and a new hard drive in mine. Last time I was in there I complained again about it. Then complained about how the update is like $280. So the guy said for me to wait until January when the newest update comes out and he would hook me up with the $280 update for free.:D

I will have to say ever update I have had so far has made small improvements.

It's strange to have such contrasts. I took my first long trip and the Entune Nav was more accurate timing-wise than Google maps. Voice works well too.

There is an option for the voice commands to be trained to your voice. Have you tried it? It prompts you to repeat about 10 sentences and learns your voice. Also, you can set the region that you live so the search function automatically limits options based on where you live. Once all these variables are set, at least for me, nav works awesomely.

Anyone hear anything about an entune app available for windows phones? I love my new nokia, probably the most incredible piece of tech I've ever owned, but no entune app as far as I can tell..

Please enlighten me as to where to find these functions? I feel like I have gone in and out of every menu function there is and I did not see these options. Unless they were hidden in the latest update?

He may have a different version of software if his truck is newer. I admit I have not looked super hard but I don't think my 2012 has this feature either.

Check this out, see if your phone is on here. It'll tell you if it's compatible.
