    What's up guys,

I cant believe they removed Pandora from entune!
    So.. . .

I just installed a Sony XAV-AX5000 7" touchscreen with Android Auto.

Figured the sound quality from the stock speakers with the Sony would be equal to or greater than the entune Premium.

    Its sounds God awful.

The Sony is pushing 4x55 watts isn't this enough for the stock speakers.
I don't really want to go all crazy on car audio, just wanted AA and the decent sound of the entune Premium..

I know it's no alpine, but equal to the stock unit.

55wx4 is plenty to push the stock speakers and although Sony may not make the best head unit it should sound no worse than the stock HU. Sounds like you may have a bad install or a defective HU. Either way I would take it in and let them know you're not happy with it.

    Yeah.
From what I have read from the audio guys, the stock head units are somewhat tuned for the weak stock speakers. I have read that the rears aren't sent much power. I kept the stock HU and swapped speakers for under $250, and it sounds great. I would do speakers first, and test with a USB thumb drive as audio source. BT audio can be lower quality.

Its got great high And low, just zero mid range.

I might just throw the Entune back in.

Anyone know the entune watt output.

I just installed the XAV-AX5000 in my Tacoma and it sounds light years better than the stock radio. I think perhaps you crossed some wires (positive/negative) potentially causing your sound issues. Nothing wrong with this head unit. That said, the Crux adapter for the steering wheel controls was crossed on the plug used to retain the stock backup camera. Brown and white wires were reversed so I had to snip and cross. Was getting "No Video Signal" prior to reversing the wires. You can see the cross I did below.

Who did the install, and how was it done. Switching polarity on speakers will cause problems similar to this.

Does your backup camera still work? If yes, did you need any additional part to do so? I’m looking at the XAV-AX7000

Yes, it still works. The XAV has its own lines that it draws for the camera but I disabled them because the stock lines from the stock camera are better.

Also, I had a helluva time getting it to work....because whomever wired the harness required to step down the voltage from 12v to like 6v or whatever the camera needs must have been drunk and it must have been a friday.....because they reversed the hot and the ground wire.

I mistakenly decided to do this as it was getting dark...but luckily the rep from Crutchfield who answered the phone was very helpful....and also luckily for me I have and know how to use a multimeter.

I was able to determine that the hot wire was reversed with the ground for just the wiring harness for the rear camera.

Also luckily for me I was able to use my WAGO lever nuts to flip the wires without having to use traditional wire nuts. In case I was wrong, I would be able to reverse what I did.....but it wasn't necessary.

Here is a pic of the wires reversed.

Here is a pic before reinstalling the head unit.

And if you're curious I love the headunit and it sounds great. Everything was super easy minus the damn reversed wire harness....and using the wagos not only saved time but space as well. No distortion at all and the only complaint I have is that there is no OFF button - if you want to shut off music you have to hit pause or hit Options, then Turn Source Off which is annoying.

Thed stock speakers are absolute shit, made out of paper with no magnet. Nothing worn with the head unit whatsoever. Repalce the stoick speaker, and if you need more get an amplifier, and subwoofer with it's own amp.

The factory HU audio signal is equalized to make the most of the factory speakers. The factory speakers are super light and perform relatively well given their simplicity and mass…no doubt to lower weight and increase margin.

When you throw in an aftermarket HU, you’re left with speakers that were ‘mated’ to the head unit. If you’re set on using the Sony without an amp, get some Kickers, Infinity or other brand that has good efficiency.

I just got a Sony XAV-9000ES and it sounds great with the Subaru/Kicker tweeters and some Dayton aluminum woofers in the door. All powered by the Sony HU.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
+1 on possible speaker wire polarity be being reversed. If you adjust fade and balance, are all 4 speakers sounding equally bad?

Have you tried adjusting the audio settings in the HU, including equalizer?

the Sony should be pushing far more power than the stock entune unit which should be more than enough for stock speakers.

Sony has always made crap sounding HU(other than their MiniDisc). Stock is most likely Pioneer.

Best sounding HU are Pioneer, Alpine, and Panasonic. in that order. I'm sure there are a few other brands, but thats what came off the top of my head.

Pioneer is good stuff. Sony's ES line always sounds good but is costly. Can't go wrong with Alpine either.

Never ever had a problem with Sony equipment of any kind... One thing they do very right is AV.

First, did you follow the Sound Settings instructions on page 17 of your manual? Set everything there to OFF or mid-range. In general, if you manipulate the EQ settings, you can make any speakers sound like garbage if you don't know what you are doing.

    Suspect settings, or wiring.
