Sony is stronger in their video products. Their audio sucks.

I wonder if you guys that are saying Sony audio sucks have ever heard a Sony HU (I suspect not). My Sony HU sounds outstanding with after market speakers. Just sayin.

Sony Audio sucks... Hmmm, I have a XM-S400D amp sitting under my OEM head unit powering the speakers in my '22 Sport. Sounds pretty dang good, and will sound even better when I throw new speakers at the truck.
That's a class D amp that has been around for a long time. It's probably the first introduced.
OK, I'm biased, but my experience doesn't match with your claim.

So, to be more objective: here is an experiment for you - go on the Crutchfield website, go to the receivers section. Specify your year and model Taco. Filter on Sony. Look at ANY of the compatible receivers, and they all get very high scores for reviews.

Repeat the experiment for car audio amplifiers. Sure you're going to find reviews that claim their products are bad. That is just too big of a generalization though.

Did you have a bad experience with one or more of their audio products?

I've never known Sony audio to suck...they simply make something for every price point and their ES line is special. You can't suck in this business and stay in business as long as Sony has. Sounds like you had a bad experience.

The main reason I got my HU is for audio quality and the hi-res 24-bit DAC.

Sony is huge like yamaha, they're into far more than just audio video products that makes more money. A friend of mine ran a Sony store having Sony from their superscope days, and even they admitted Sony audio was never the greatest with their audio line, saying many of their products had excessive warranty claims. I've still got an old Sony tower system, and a couple xbr flatscreen tvs from them. I will say their products have been long lasting, but there's a lot better stuff out there.

For me the Sony brand represents reliable value. Can someone spend more and buy better? Sure. Does that mean their products suck though? That's what I was getting at. Nothing more, nothing less.

There is something wrong with the OP's setup.
I have my money on product configuration or installation.
If the OP is not happy with the product, it can be returned to Cruchfield.

Sony does engineer their pc boards better than other manufactures for longevity, but thats about where it ends. Imo, their audio products are overrated by many.

I tend to not buy Sony stuff in general. And that's because there are other brands out there that I prefer for certain products. But their ES line is really, really good stuff. I had planned on buying Pioneer or Alpine until I heard there was an ES offering from Sony. That's how strong that product line is for me.

I thought their xbr video line was really good to, but its over rated, plus has more bugs. I hope their ES isn't the same.
