I can’t find it in my search history to give proper credit, but thank you to whoever posted simply Deleting Personal Data and to turning off Contact Sync to fix my Entune system from constantly rebooting every time anything happened on my phone.

Pressing few prompts and waiting about minute is sure cheaper than $1000+ for a refurbished head unit at the dealership.

I did that (Delete Personal Data) AND

    1. Forget the Tacoma from phones Bluetooth settings
    2. Removed/unpaired ALL connected phones from the head unit
    3. Removed the Entune app from iPhone
    4. Reset Network Settings on iPhone
    5. Signed out of iTunes account
    6. Restarted phone
    7. Signed back into iTunes account
    8. Turn Bluetooth back on and re-pair iPhone like normal
    9. Re-Sync contacts and enable "Show message notifications" in Bluetooth settings (tap on the blue i (with a circle around it) next to the Tacoma connection)

All has been well for the past 4 days - no more reboots, everything back to normal - even WITH the Contacts Synced up.

With the latest iPhone update I had the constant reboot of the head unit. Went to iPhone Bluetooth settings and went to Tacoma and took off the contacts and favorites. Stopped the reboot. Hopefully this will be fixed on the next iPhone update.

Which ios is on your iphones & how isn't it a pita to not have the contacts synced?

My jbl premium hu worked fine with my iphone 8 on 12.4.1 then the dealer updated the hu firmware and I was getting reboots. The dealer told be exactly what you guys posted, delete the phone/unpair then repair without contacts or faves and it worked. After a while I selected to sync the contacts and favorites and it seems to be working ok.

Only think now is my old 80gb ipod classic will crash if I don't disconnect it when parking.

I’m using the iPhone 11 max. The reboot started with iOS update 13.3.1

I will try the above posted procedure and see if my contacts will load. It is a pain as I forgot contacts were not loaded and pressed the voice button saying to call my wife’s mobile phone and obviously it did not work as nothing was loaded from contacts.

When I was at the dealer last week I overheard one of the service reps talking to a customer on the phone. He was advising the customer that there was no problem with his HU and that he should re-pair the phone without the contacts to fix his problem.

I update whenever it comes out. Currently, at 13.3.1 on iPhone X. The fix lasted for month before it started rebooting again. Decided to just leave off Phone Syncing entirely. Been fine except tonight. Bluetooth just disconnected all of sudden while on the phone with someone. Had to stop and restart the truck to get it to work again.

I recall from the thread-I-can-not-find that the problem may have more to do with the fragmenting of internal memory of the Entune system. When I confronted the Dealership about this, they told me it’s out of the 36,000 mile warranty (currently 61K). They told me to call Toyota Customer Service and tell them how loyal I am, always making payments on time, getting service at the Dealership, blah blah blah.... and they might swing me a free replacement.

Got shot down immediately after 20 minutes on hold. So yeah:censored:

As soon as this first round of aftermarket credit card payments are done, it’ll be time for new head unit made by someone else.

That’s odd it worked fine for a while then glitched.
I had a similar bt connectivity problem with the 2011 dodge pickup I had. I’d have to stop shut it off and restart it, sometimes switching to airplane mode would work.
With the taco it had some crazy navigation routes pop up and not let me select any then start the guidance
I’d guess an apple car play hu would solve it all

I have a '19 Tacoma with the JBL Entune. Could not sync contacts since new. Dealer updated, swapped the head unit nothing worked. I did read other posts on the contact list but I didn't want to turn off the contact sync as it has worked in every other car except for the Tacoma.

I tried everything, complete phone reset / reset network settings, re-pair but no luck. The only fix I found is I went through each contact and removed any additional info that wasn't a first name, last name, phone number and no more restarts.

The dealer / Toyota never mentioned the contact issue and only tried to update and replace parts.

The head units are flakey....I hate to say it because the truck is great but there is no reason the entire navigation / audio system should shut down because of a contact sync issue. The latest software does not fix the issue (as of this post, May 5th 2020). I would have loved an error that it couldn't sync contacts and i'd figure it out from there but instead it just completely crashes and reboots non-stop.

YMMV but after 10 months of it not working, I have so far had great luck with each contact having a (123)-456-7890 phone, first, and last name only, and that solved it for me.

I am very disappointed Toyota cannot send a meaningful error message, and instead just crashes and let's the customer guess what is wrong :-| Clearly a systemic issue as the dealers do not even know - they just replace parts try to update and kick the can as that is all they can do. I hope if you are having this issue you complain to Toyota corporate as it is just poor/sloppy design.

Also to add definitely concerned from the posts I see that repairing, changing contacts etc. just ends up kicking the can and it'll stop working again.

    back from the dead…

my ‘14 entune has lost its contact names 3-4 times over the years and also has auto reset a few times. a recent iphone update killed the contact list but the usual manual contact sync or repair didn’t work this time. i tried the “delete all data” option and problem solved. thanks for info..

Not only was my head unit rebooting every 30 seconds to 5 minutes, but my dome light was flickering, truck would lose power after I turned ignition off, and lights on my dash would go on and off. Turns out my battery terminals were corroded to shit. Cleaned them very well and all issues gone, including the head unit restarting. Hope this will help some of you guys.
