I noticed that Toyota starting applying a film on the entune head unit for the newer trucks. My previous one didn’t have it. Seems like it’s to make your finger slide easier on the display, but it also mutes the colors and makes thing look foggy/blurry from certain angles. Has anyone try or thought about removing it? I’m hesitant. I feel like I could get it off, but I know it’s going to leave a residue, and goof off and/or alcohol sometimes don’t play nice on plastic. I don’t want to permanently f it up.

    Here’s a comparison:

My Camry with similar head unit and no film, and Tacoma with film.

Um, no. If anything I applied a screen cover to my dash gauge cluster, multimedia display and gear selector.

You sure it’s not like the new film you peel off when you get something that’s supposed to be nice and glossy?

Yeah, I’m sure. I can pick a corner, but it’s on there really good.

Check again. Stevie17 might be right. Pretty sure I removed a protective film off my stock head unit after I got it home. Film was meant for protection until owner takes possession.

When I bought my 2016 the 3rd Gens were so new back then I could not find a head unit screen protector so I got a tablet screen protector and made it fit. Coming up on 8 years and I have not needed to replace it yet. Touch sensitivity is still great.

Yes, maybe it was left during the PDI?

The film is there for a reason. It is there too protect the screen from scratches the unit ship factory with a protective screen. It should’ve been removed on PDI.

The aftermarket films protect the screen from scratches and damage. They also minimize glare.

your pictures are a little bit deceiving. Yes the pictures will look different if viewed from different angles
