Thanks! I'll try to remember to snap some pics when it's light out tomorrow...they've been on the truck for awhile now (PO installed them) and definitely not shiny anymore lol.

Really dig your truck. Kind of wish mine was red. :D

How did you like the 5100s/OME 881s? Considering that combo (or the Nitrochargers) along with Dakar leaf pack. Truck could use a refresh and those seem like the best bang for the buck.

After I decide what lift kit I'm gonna go with, repainting the faded fender flares and plasti dipping the chrome badges is next on my list. my taco is the same color as yours and i think that looks slick as hell! did you do it yourself?

haha thanks man, I've never owned a red vehicle before this (always neutral colors, black, grey etc.) but I couldn't be too choosy when it came to finding a low mileage 1st gen, especially this one. I took whatever color I could get and it's really grown on me, plus you always stand out on the trail haha :D

My only complaint with the 881s was that they didn't get me the lift height that I wanted (or that they advertised)...I think they advertise 2" with the 881s, but I barely got 1.5". And I ended up realizing afterward that I really wanted 2.5" so they just were never a really good fit for me. They rode really well, I had no complaints there, but if I were to go that route again I would have gone with the 882s or 883s.

Plastidip is great stuff, despite what some people on here want to say or think, lol. I did mine almost 2 years ago and it's held up pretty well given the abuse I put my truck through, only a few chips in it here and there. Plus, it's easy enough to reapply and if you don't like it you just peel it off.

I need to redo mine though, after 2 years it could use a new coat. It's a time consuming process though (especially the badges) because of all the masking you have to do to make sure it doesn't get elsewhere (not a big deal if it does). My one big piece of advice on that would be: when masking off the areas with tape, be sure to peel the tape off before the plastidip dries...otherwise both the tape and all you plastidip you just put on will come off with it. I learned that the hard way lol

Oh and doing the fender flares with bedliner was one of the best things I did, it stays deep black and doesn't fade like the stock color does.

Hey how do you like the AAL? I'm not really looking for a whole new leaf pack when I put on those icons, wasn't sure if maybe I'd need an aal to mix with the icons?
Granted I still have my 31s so I don't really need extra lift. Wasn't sure if the stock leaf pack would mess with the icons in some way or something similar

Edit: Your fender flares, spray on or paint on bedliner?

Yaaaa the notification popped up right as I hit post hahaha

Although different question, your flares are they spray on bed liner or paint on? I'm planning on doing mine but my concern with spray on would be a lack of texture

Haven't been updating this like I should be...it's been a busy few months for my truck.

Installed a Tuff Stuff Delta RTT, Wheeler's Superbumps in the rear, new CV axle in the front passenger side (blew the old one up in Big Bear in the snow, surprisingly) and a few other odds and ends.

Ran the Mojave Road trail for 3 nights and days across the desert from Laughlin, NV to Barstow, CA...over 200 miles of remote dirt and historic landscapes. Got a ton of photos I'll post up here soon.

Hit up Gold Mountain last weekend (videos below) and Pilot rock today, photo from Pilot Rock where I unsuccessfully tried to climb this ledge making me realize a front locker and 33s are nearing the top of my priority list...

Dude, you gotta let your air pressure down on your tires when doing stuff like that, or off road in general.

....who said I don't? I always air down, usually go down to 15. Airing down is one of the most critical things you do on any of these trails.

Having a beer while airing down/airing up is a sacred 4x4 ritual that ought not be skipped.

Yes you do...can always build it into a capable go-fast 4x4 if you want, then you have the best of both worlds....

...and more expensive shit to fix :spending:

 yaaaa I have a bit more sense now I know I won't be getting both. Putting 33s and a bunch of other mods on my daily doesn't sound great when I'm at 14 mpg so I'm thinking about getting a older 4x4 that's already built up a bit to my liking. That or a desert runner; just gotta sell my 2nd vehicle first :anonymous:

That's a good idea, hopefully it's a well built and maintained one as you don't want to inherit someone else's $$$$$ headache. I'm catching up on the mpgs, I'm lucky to get 15mpg these days. The skids/sliders, E rated tires and RTT really weigh the truck down.

Just be glad you don't have to fill up with premium like I do, stuff is getting really expensive out here
