Try both out at a gun store if you can. I was intent on an Aimpoint until I tried them both out side by side. I went with the Eotech. I did recently however pick up a ML3 and I think I like it but further tests are needed when my new mount gets here.

I've used both. I use Aimpoint for my personal guns. We ran EoTech on our AR's when I was on ERT. I like both but I like Aimpoint the best. A simple red dot is my preference. EoTech does have an edge in the battery department unless you have the new CompM4 but they're on the expensive side. Look at both and decide what you like.

I was always told to get the Aimpoints, but after trying them side by side, I went with the Eotech.

Actually the Aimpoint wins the battery battle. My ML3 won't need batteries for 5 years with it being on the whole time.

The Aimpoint wins as far as longevity. The ease of finding batteries goes to the EoTech though. It's a good deal easier to find AA and CR123A batteries than the small 3v that the older Aimpoints use. The M4 does use AA's but it's an expensive piece of equipment.

like everyones been saying, all depends on what ya plan on using it for and how much your willing to spend. You can get either used from ar15.com for about the same price but new the eotechs' are def less. Had an aimpoint m3 on my m4 in basic and it was good for aimed fire at moderate range targets but the dot started dissapearing after every shot and i had to slap it to get it back up. (just a batt issue) i have a eotech 552 on my ar now that i got used and looks like has been to the sandbox for a bit and it works fine, been shooting from 25-100yds and getting perfect zeroes. if your planning on home defence get an eotech, the wide screen and 65moa circle around the dot are worth it.

I prefer the Aimpoint, I've shot almost all models of the EOtech and its a damn good optic. If you really want to be high speed, get an acog with a Jpoint mounted on top.
Or look at the Elcan's. I am not a fan by far, but its a neat concept.

I shoot from the hip :D

Horse walks into a bar, and the bartender asks, "why the long face?"
Maybe i have a long face lol because it doesnt bother me at all, no line/bore site issues that i've epxerienced, this ACOG will most likely get replaced by a EOtech holo with a magnifier mounted on an FTS mount. it is a removable carry handle so this is easily accomplished :D

Eotechs mount poorly and have shitty battery life. Plus the auto shut off sucks. Aimpoints have every edge except for the 1moa reticle option. If you are just getting it for plinking get whatever.

The auto shut off on the Eotech is like 8hrs which won't bother most civilian shooters and mine mounts just fine:confused: but then again, I'm not on a 2 way range.

No Mudflaps, Fog lights on all the time, Map light/Dome light mod, Door sill protectors, In-channel window guards, Re-badged and sock-monkeyed,many more to come.
The auto shut off is four hours if you turned the device on with the 'lower intensity' button. It shuts off eight hours later if you used the other button to turn it on. So it is good for any kind of range, one way or two way.

I would be cautious about choosing one or the other looking through them at a gunshop. You really need to find people with both and get out and use them.

That said, if your intention is to sit at a bench at the public range and plink, the RDS is most likely a giant waste of cash. Simply stick to the irons and learn to shoot. Most good, precision shooters with a firm grasp on the fundamentals will shoot better in the long run with irons. Of simply get a magnified conventional optic for shooting at distance. Where the RDS shines is in dynamic shooting situations at close to intermediate range.

My preference is for the Aimpoint, and I find that a large percentage of EoTech buyers start out down that path due to nothing more than cost and wind up locked in to a decision they feel they need to justiry. I own, and have owned, both and if I was only going to buy one type of RDS it would be the Aimpoint Comp C3 or, if they start selling in volume again, the new PRO, either one in 2 MOA dot.

Never having to turn it off has nothing to do with the optic shutting off on you and has much more to do with the optic already being on if you need it. I have multiple Aimpoints that I have yet to turn off, one of which is an H-1 that I mounted to an AK in mid-2008 and it is still on today.

This is true but I would ad that, though I have not been on a 2 way range, I'm sure many Eotechs have.

I don't know, Rob; that might be true but I think a lot of people just prefer the field of reticule and view of the Eotech over looking through a 'tube'. I know what you're saying but $ didn't sway me when I was deciding between the two. Now that I have an Aimpoint to play with (mount should be here today) I may change my tune some but I will always like my 552. I just wish it was as tough as an Aimpoint...
