The EPA is planning on increasing the ethanol limit from 10% to 15%. The link is to a petition opposed to this increase.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not liking this idea to much given the impact 10% ethanol has had on MPG with these trucks.

    none yet ...
i don't have the manual handy, but it recommends against ethanol if i recollect correctly

additionally, the stuff is useless, and i'd prefer biomass be limited to human and livestock consumption, and not be put into our trucks

recycled biomass for diesels is another story

I thought they quit pushing this when corn prices quadrupled during their last effort at this?

The Fed is trying to further regulate what is manufactured and what we can buy by increasing to 15% and mandating a 35 MPG fleet.

Isn't it a oxymoron like jumbo shrimp to have corn syrup in the gas which makes the mpg go down and then mandate the mpg to go up ? How does that work ? Don't make no sense. Oh well it will make the corn farmers happy and that's the important thing I guess. Do corn farmers contribute that much to the politicians ? They must.

Good luck trying to get higher mileage with more ethanol. The 10% is partly why mileage is so crappy now.

We got commies running the EPA now. I hope we get a new congress in there this November to jam a stick in the wheel of this socialist train.

I hate ethanol! The whole thing is a dam hoax! Look it up, the only reason that it appears to be energy efficient (at a 1.1:1 energy ratio) is the fact that those numbers neglected the transportation and harvesting energy required to make it. The fact is that on a good day ethanol is 1:1.3 which means that you loose 1/3 of a gallon of gas for every gallon of ethanol you burn. Its a complete waste of energy and money into a useless piece of technology.

Thanks for trying to find a use for subsidized corn, try again.

On the other hand biomass such as willow can be used to get 3:1 ratios and turn a profit (when a bunch of undergrads are paid peanuts to make it).

These efficiency stats are only talking about the production system, the crappy MPG that we get on top is just further proof of what crap this stuff is.

I know when I see a government forcing us not to burn lead or dump sewage into the ocean the first thing I think of is communism. And now they want to test if E15 will work in new cars that already run on E10!?! We definitely need a new congress, this is outrageous!

Actually, it's the long term effects that E15 would have on vehicles manufactured before 2001 that is the issue. The EPA is proposing two different Ethanol blends at the pump and the oil companies and auto manufacturers are against it. I believe this will die sooner or later.

Ethanol, the new MTBE! They're just going to ignore all the world-wide studies showing the health effects and the extra pollution ethanol is causing. MTBE was used to help burn the fuel up more before it hit the tailpipe. They learned it wasn't well contained when leaking from underground gas tanks thus contaminating the groundwater (it traveled faster than water when seeping into the ground). So they switch to ethanol to help burn the fuel better. Then all the studies come out on the disaster it's creating. All the studies are showing how it adds more particulates to the air in the cities than if you didn't use it at all. We'd have cleaner/healthier air if we quit using ethanol. And those particulates are especially disastrous to human lungs. Just google it and read all the independent studies. There's studies in Australia, the U.S., etc. that are all finding this to be the case.

BTW, I love how people don't think for themselves. "It's the current administration!" Yep, that's right. MTBE and Ethanol all started this year...just like the economy. In reality, the economy's problems are due to the people mostly anyway since they were the ones taking out loans they couldn't afford, businesses offering to loan them money knowing they couldn't pay it back, and then just as quickly selling it to someone else. Get a clue people! I don't care which side of the fence you're on, give up the republican/democratic crap. It's a nice catchall for ignoring the real cause of problems. Now with MTBE and Ethanol, we can legitimately blame the politicians (yes, both sides since the heads of these agencies are appointed by each administration which does change sides every 4 to 8 years).

What needs to happen is not allow companies to give to these people. No special interests. Thus the corn/ethanol producers wouldn't be able to buy off anyone forcing us to dirty up the air for their sales. I'm sure we would still buy the stuff for food. Duh!

Okay, I feel much better now.:D

Sorry, but I deal with a lot of ridiculous people on a daily basis and on the internet I can say what ever I want! I do know a lot about gas stations, and the EPA, they do a lot of great stuff I promise! Anyways, if you have any question or concerns you should ask and I'll try to answer without being a smart ass.

And truthfully, E15 will probably not happen as it does not reduce Green House Gases, we are far more likely to see increased fuel efficiency requirements and other clever ideas like cool cars.
