Look at the top of the page, @PHTaco had one on his...till he knocked it off in a parking garage, but to the racks credit it all stayed together very well. Look above you'll see. I haul lumber on mine all the time more weight than an RTT by far with no issues.

Two more Superstruts and a crap-load of fasteners in the garage now. Except for paint, I hope to get this finished up this weekend.

Seems like the more I work on this project, the further I get from completion.

Back to Home Depot in the morning.

The rack measures 56.75" X 36.5", and weighs in at 37.5 lbs. It is quite stout. I can stand on the middle crossbar with little flex (180 lbs).

    Parts List
    (3) 10' Struts
    (2) 6' 2.25" X 1.5" Angled Iron
    (10) 3-hole Corner Bracket
    (4) 4-hole Straight Bracket
    (38) Nuts & Bolts
    (38) Split/Lock Washers
    (76) Flat Washers
    (2) Hacksaw Blades

I need to get four of those square washers for spacers.
    Painting within a few weeks.

Well I have officially been inspired by this thread and seeing how I work at one of the hardware stores as my part time job, I immediately picked up supplies as soon as my shift was over today and will be starting on my rack tomorrow, very excited and thanks for this awesome thread!

Respect to ERMB and samiam for all of the hard work and time spent building these projects and taking the time to do a write-up for it. Seriously considering making one of these for my LEER. Really need it for lumber and plywood sheet transporting. Question would the aluminum side plates that you attached be able to withstand mounting an awning to it, such as the ARB 2000 that I just ordered? Thank you in advance.

Thanks man, I think depending on how you attach the aluminum to the strut will make all the difference. An L bracket reinforcing it from the back would help definitely.

Honestly I'm more concerned with it warping the metal where its attached due to buffeting @ highway speeds.

The aluminum I put on mine is merely decorative and attaches on the rear rack to the side of the strut running parallel behind it. If I were to run an awning I would attach an L bracket which I believe comes with the awning right behind the aluminum along the two of the crossmember struts set at whatever distance it requires as per ARB.
