I saw this rack variation in @beertimecontinuum 's build thread and thought it was pretty neat.

Not sure exactly what all that he did, but essentially added a floor to the roof rack.

I was thinking about adding a section of expanded metal to mine, but I think I like the looks of that one better.

    I do too.

Having a flat surface with near infinite mounting points is what I have on my cab, and believe me, it's the best thing ever for securing nearly anything. :D

I also found a place to mount my tie down anchor from uscargocontrol.

Thanks, it's a steel wire mesh. We make tons of it at work and form it into industrial shelving or collapsible containers use in material handling. Snagged a piece that was 2"×2" squares and .250 diameter. Heavy duty. It fit exactly to lock into the unistrut. Almost didn't need to weld it
    And loaded down...

Looks Awesome!!! Great use of the strut as the track. If I hadn't already installed my tracks I would have done the same thing.

I like that one! I'm going to do the same thing as soon as the AZ summer turns to fall.

I did differ a little from the original plans but overall it's great! The struts work great as a track and I can't wait to get it coated with bed liner, one of the best threads on TW for sure might have to try out a rack on the cab now:thumbsup:

Has anyone here tried a full length double can rack? Checking before I go and figure out the angles and slope of the roof.

How did you hold the cross bars to the end bars? What size piexes did you use?

It's fully welded and ground to look like one continuous piece. Sticks came from lowes, don't recall the exact size but they are the low profile design. Like 3/4"H x1 1/2"W I think.

Looks good man! I'm about to do the exact same thing this week. How did you mount the "tracks" to your topper? Just drill through the roof and bolt them down?
