I bought a fairing from Frontrunner. It was fairly cheap ($30 IIRC). I went with the assumption that theirs is wind tunnel tested and any attempt I made would be trial & error. I had horrible wind noise before and now have none, even with two cases and maxtrax mounted. If you zoom in on the pic you can see it. It goes down rather than up, so doesn’t cost you any space. I welded tabs to the backside of the front crossmember to mount it.

I like it. That fairing looks a little wavy though.

Mostly because its flimsy and when its bolted down it isn't straight in between the bolts.. I need a thicker piece but don't feel like messing with it anynore for now lol. Maybe in the spring.

Just stumbled across this thread and got to sub it and throw my hat in the ring. Should have my 5 8020 crossbars on Friday and sidebars back from Ano. This is a preview of revA and knowing myself I’m sure there will be more revs to follow. I don’t plan on ever putting lots of weight up there and I want to be able to take it on and off quickly. Rack will come off with the press of 4 buttons and has an estimated weight of 12 lbs.

I’ll try and post screenshots of the CAD tomorrow.

Will post real pics when my 8020 shows up but for now here's my CAD:

And now I'm just messing around but it's good for a sense of scale:

I'm designing it to click on and off the OEM roof rack for double cabs without using any tools. My truck is primarily my daily driver and I don't want to drive around all the time with a roof rack and a bunch of stuff hanging off of it.

I like that. Only downside to the OEM rack would be the weight capacity. You won't be able to hold much weight with that rack. Really dig the idea though.

Yeah, I'm aware. I have 2 lines of thinking with respect to that. First is that I'm not a fan of putting weight up high any ways and the second is that with racks like the Prinsu, Gobi, or Frontrunner, I believe they too are picking up the factory threaded inserts so I am dubious with respect to their weight ratings. I'm gonna trust the Toyota engineers and limit my weight to 100 lbs gross (that's a big part of why my rack weighs aprox 12 lbs.)

I've only seen one post here that included an installed light bar. Anyone here install a light bar with the roof rack they made?
