I have a 2010 Tacoma 4.0 and I use it for hunting in the winter months so it sets during the summer. As usual each fall I change the oil to prep for hunting season. After changing the oil and 1 trip to the woods it throws error code p0012.
I reset the code and it runs fine for about a week, now p0012 and p0022 codes are present. Is this for sure a timing chain issue? I plan to tear it down Saturday , but if anyone has seen this issue before , please let me know .

It's certainly possible although it isn't all that common for the timing chain to stretch/jump unless oil changes are neglected.

It's relatively common for the oil control valves to fail but very unusual for both to fail at the same time.

Do you have a sharp rattle/knock on a cold start?

Have you verified the oil level is correct?

The oil changes have always been done between 4-5k miles .

I found it odd they both could fail within a few days, I can’t really see anything until Saturday, I will keep you posted.

It starts fine when cold , no knock or rattle but as it warms up I do hear a chatter from the front area.

The oil level is just below the full mark on the stick .
