The Entune Audio Plus audio system installed on '14s includes BT interface to phones. You can't originate text messages or read them but the system will 'read out' messages such as texts. It will also allow you to respond to texts with pre-written 'quick messages' (system has defaults and you can edit them).

When I select a quick message response and hit send the animated 'circle' icon displays for about 20 or 30 seconds (a bit too long) and then it displays the following message (see image).

BUT the text message DOES in fact go out successfully quickly. In fact I can get a response to a text while the icon is still spinning (erroneously saying it's 'sending) and before the error message displays.

It's paired to a Galaxy S4. Everything else between the head unit and the phone seems to work flawlessly as far as I can tell.

    Anybody seen this issue?

I haven't yet :notsure: but I tend to respond with my phone using Siri (iPhone 5s) and verbally saying the text and it types it out for me to send

(I have a 2014 non jbl entune headunit in my 08)

See build link in signature or public profile.
I have a Droid Razr Maxx and had the same exact issue, sent my friend several of the same text multiple times. Then one day it worked properly without the error.

Then I factory reset my phone since it was lagging (unrelated to Entune) and the text messaging via BT stopped working and can't get it to get MAP, or whatever it is, permission from my phone even though I am clicking to do so. :(

http://www.toyota.com/content/entune/pdf/Phone_Compatibility_List_Display_Audio2.PDF says mine is "Partially Compatible"

It seems Entune is waiting for some sort of acknowledge from the phone and when it doesn't get it - displays the error message. The message actually transmits successfully irregardless. Don't know if the phone isn't sending an ack or if the system isn't understanding it as an ack?

I didn't see any settings in msg config that worked.

I looked a 'little' on the phone and didn't see an settings that might help but one can dig a fair bit in an OS like Android...

Selected software update on Entune audio and got the following:
    Audio 010171
    Audio System 000072
    Dsp Module 520020
    Sub 010001
    Can 130209
    No history of updates applied...

Phone is S4 SW version L720VPUEMJA
    Android 4.3
    Kernal 3.4.0-1927016

How can you tell the difference between a Entune and Entune Plus unit?

I honestly don't know. In my case it was on the 2014 window sticker and the factory option code is 'ED'.

The original Entune featured the ability to access certain apps on your phone and the so called 2014 'plus' does NOT. Go figure.

It has am fm hd (digital fm) sat cd traffic weather bt streaming usb and messaging.

It's a decent unit for my needs but some might say it's technically Entune Minus.

For 2014 now there are 3 different entunes. ED, EE and EN. ED is just entune plus no nav, EE is Entune premium with Nav, and EN is the JBL.

I have the EN and paired to my iphone 4S, it doenst have the capability of linking messages. Sucks. I hope when i upgrade to 5S it will. Any one have any luck with a iphone and messages?

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 5. iOS 7.0.4
The HU can read the text but I am not able to send quick text.
I get the error message as pgtr but it does not send.

    2014 SR5 Entune Audio Plus.

    EDIT
Apple is not supported to send text.

I found the answer for this wonderfully undocumented "ERROR"!
First of all, the message is actually sent even though you see the "ERROR"!
    Check your phone!
Second, You can fix the problem (at least on Android/Galaxy Phones)!
    1) From the Home Screen, pull down the "SETTINGS" menu.
    2) Tap the "More settings" bar.
    3) Tap the "Tethering" bar.
    4) Place a check mark in the "Bluetooth tethering" box.
    5) Exit back out of all menus.

Voila! Quick Text Messaging now works as it should! No Error!
This setting is OFF by default on most Android devices.

Toyota should have included these directions in the setup screens for pairing, but sadly, they failed to provide the information.

this doesnt work of you are a Verizon customer and are stock, due to VZ locking this feature down unless you have a tethering subscription.

All NEW Verizon Family Share plans include tethering !
(the 2GB plan has been upgraded to 3GB for free).
If you have a Verizon 4G phone and don't pay for a data plan,
you are crippling your phone anyway. You won't see the weather maps!
As I mentioned before, Toyota still has work to go on the software.
The "proper" use of text messaging through the correct profile has yet to be fully implemented.
I did find a work around also:
Don't respond to a text with the initial drop down box.
    1) Press the APPS button
    2) Select Messaging
    3) Press the bar with your desired text reply.
    4) Sometimes this works without the error, but in all cases, the reply is sent!
    5) Ignore the error message and reply "NO" to the retry message.
The only issue with this method is that it takes a long time for the error to appear.
I have not tried to reply by the voice key method, which may work.
I have 2 open issues with Toyota on this issue and I have gotten nothing but excuses!
They have plenty of non-committed responses! But so far no real action!
If we want this resolved - Get on the phone and complain - loudly!
Call The Toyota Customer Experience line at 1-800-331-4331 option 4, then 2!
BTW: The software for this device (JBL Enutune Plus) is actually written by QNX.
(The same folks that brought you the Blackberry device!)

Hmm, I have the same setup, truck and phone.
I have only had this truck for a few months and have not used the message feature much.
I have not seen anything like this, will give it a try and see what happens.

2014 Tacoma, IPhone 5S and I have the same problem. I can get incoming texts. But, I cannot send out a text at all.
Where did you get the info about Apple texts not supported? Anyone found a fix for this?

Have the dealership apply the firmware update, then marry the Bluetooth again and be sure to set Bluetooth tethering to "ON" on your phone! You will need to turn this back ON each time you turn Bluetooth OFF!

If you don't have tethering option, the radio cannot communicate via Bluetooth and endlessly waits for the return response from the network, which it never gets!

If you use "El Cheapo" cell phone company: 'T-Mobile' or 'Cricket' or any other bandwidth limited network provider, you can expect this type of behavior out of the network! You may very well need to upgrade your cell phone service!

The bigger issue is, why doesn't Toyota require Panasonic (the radio head manufacturer) to comply with the CTIA protocol standards for Bluetooth instead of making individual patches for each phone type, when each phone manufacturer should be tested against the 'standard'?

Sounds to me like Toyota is totally mismanaging their vendor!
