Not necessary. There’s a little metal clip on the door that holds the cord.

Overlanding as in just going on dirt roads and camping?

    Stock is fine.

If I was disciplined - AAL only (so the rear doesn't squat too much w/ all the camp gear in the bed). My truck already came w/ the OEM rock sliders and TRD skid plate. The rest were nice to have.

In the span of this thread, I took my stock truck off-road and camped for 2 nights with just basic camping gear.

Don't know how I managed to survive.

Just get out and do shit! You'll figure out what you need through experience.

I fly fish too and see the same thing with newbies. They think they need all the latest and greatest gear and gadgets and get stuck in analysis paralysis versus just getting some decent gear, a few flies and getting after it on the water.

Heavily modded trucks are great for picking up dudes, talking to random dudes, and getting hit on by random dudes.

If you need any help fighting off Dirty Mike and boys let me know. These the type of dudes that "want to get to know me better"

Yeah, I don’t think I’d have anything even remotely heavy enough to bottom it out. At least as long as I keep the stock bumper and don’t throw a bed rack on

I also have an SR5. Honestly the only thing you might need are better tires, just an all terrain, if you got those ridiculous highway terrain Toyos like I did.

I say that because doing a lot of dirt and gravel roads will chew those things up and you don’t want to risk getting a flat. Otherwise, the SR5 is a super capable truck. I’ve built mine out because we use it for cross country stuff, but just for doing some light off roading these trucks are perfect stock.

Everyone likes to do some modding to their new truck, it's in our DNA! Just focus on true essentials at first is the best approach.

IDK about this. I actually think a locker is a must-have for overlanding if you actually go on trails. I have had to use mine a lot: loose inclines, snowy shady areas, mud crossings, you name it. I would have been so screwed without it.

Yea if you’re doing more than just dirt and gravel roads, I definitely agree.

You definitely don’t want to get stuck on this trail, for example. Unfortunately I don’t have pics of the gnarliest bits; too busy driving.
