This is where that shovel comes in handy. Dig hole, deposit spare tire, use as anchor.

As there are no trees to anchor from in the desert here nor are most trees ever close enough for it, and as I’m not into digging hard rock and caliche soil to bury a tire anchor, I also carry a Pull-pal anchor, and use a 8-ton grip hoist with a 50–ft cable instead of a bumper mounted winch- I can pull a vehicle in any direction with that setup.

Else a cradle mounted winch can be used to reverse winch, or a front mounted winch and lots of rope and tackle can be used to rig a backwards pull if one has enough anchors or trees nearby to rig up a reverse pull.

Good first aid kits, a compressor, tire plugs, and enough water to wait for help or to walk out are good. I also like having a satellite enabled phone (at least a iPhone 14 or PLB for purely SOS use), or a satellite messenger (inReach, etc).
