What does the ETC button do and when do you use it? The manual doesn't say anything about when and why it is used.

I use it when I need more pep. Changes the shift points of the transmission. Seems to keep my RPMs around 1800-2000 instead of the 1200 or so.

Yep, nothing new. My 1st gen had it too

And its ECT not ETC - electronically controlled transmission. You can use it if you're not towing anything, some 1st gen folks claimed that they saw better gas mileage with it on while driving in the hills. I gave it a shot but wasn't convinced. Plus it makes it tough to pass vehicles on two lane roads, you can stomp on the gas to speed up and pass but the vehicle's response is delayed a bit.

Plus he said the Limited came with power seats. The running boards came with the tech package. And crawl control was an option on the Sport..LOL

I was just there to drive it though..then I just started asking questions to see what answers I would get..o_O

    Slight thread rebirth....
on my 1st gen my ECT stopped working, or at least the dash light isn't coming on anymore. Eh, It's not working. Is there a fuse associated with this? I can't find anything about fuses on any manual (Chilton's or otherwise). Some body please point me in the correct direction. Thanks.

    Willie,

You are asking in the 3rd Gen forum. You need to ask in the 1st Gen forum. You are likely to find more knowledgeable help over there.

Mine's basically an office on wheels, I drive 50k+ miles a year. I have a computer desk bolted to the front inner passenger seat rail. Also has a Lund tri-fold tonno cover to carry catalogs and product samples. Eventually want to get a Leer or ARE camper top with side fold out windows.
As a proud owner of a new '16 SR edition with the 2.7L I use it full time. I like the shift points allowing the engine to rev up a little higher and I like it downshifting quicker when I need to go around someone or get up a hill without losing speed. The only thing I DON'T like is having to switch it on EVERYTIME I get in and start it up. The earlier models had a "always on" mode. Now they always default back to off. If anyone knows a simple "hack" to keep it on full time I would love to hear from you.
Also, I get better mileage because it allows for a "lighter" foot.

I have been holding off till after I get 1,000 miles on the truck before I try out the ECT button.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's not like a Nox injection system or anything. It just changes the shift points of the transmission. If anything the higher revs keep you from lugging the motor which is probably worse than revving. [Pulled that out of my... well it's just my opinion, let's leave it at that]

The manual actually does tell you what it's for and how to use it.

I used it several times when using a light trailer to haul some brush. It's just like my old Silverado's Tow/Haul mode. Works great...I can see a difference In the shift/rpm's. Stay's in gear longer and doesn't keep shifting "hunting" gears so much. Also, better off the start like from stop signs.
