Do you need to know, or care?
I use it in hilly conditions, otherwise leave it alone, unless it's needed for passing during high traffic conditions. Alters shift points and keeps you in higher rpm's for added response.

Ya... that won't work. I'm trying to source the factory male/female connectors on the back to wire up a plug n play relay that always turns the ETC ON after starting the truck. Then you can alway push it off if desired

Use mine all the time on the back curvy country roads, and in traffic. Works great.

I use the ECT mode quite a bit in with both drive and sport shift, and I'm thinking about installing a new ECT rocker switch to the center console so that I can easily activate it whenever I want with my right hand instead of having to reach down to the bottom of the dash. Turning the ECT switch on raises the rpms slightly in each gear, and with the truck running at a constant speed when you turn the ECT on and off you can see a change in the RPM, as well as the fuel mileage indicator decrease, and with the ECT turned on the engine feels much peppier and alive.

I have a feeling that it also effects the fuel mapping and maybe even the valve timing also.

bwahahah that is what the salesman told me when I picked mine up and they were "showing me how the truck worked." I laughed and told him he should do a little more research. I think I made him mad

    Okay,
    little more digging into this;
    4 pin connector

    from LEFT to RIGHT:
    Pin1(white w/ black stripe):Ground -
    Pin2(tan):ETC activation out to ECU
    Pin3(green): Illumination +
    Pin4(pink): +12v Switched.

When the button is pressed... pin 2 and pin 4 make contact.(momentary) thus turning ON/OFF ETC. I am trying to source the factory 4 pin connector(both male and female) so I can wire in my relay and make it plug and play. Anyone know where to source these?

    1) remove the 10mm at the bottom right of the steering column panel..then pop it back.
    2) Carefully snap silver trim bezel off(the one that goes around the A/C)
    3) Reach down in the hole and pop ETC button out from the front.

Sub'd for learning how to have it come on everytime I get in the truck. Prefer to not have to manually engage everytime.

Actually, (clears throat) ECT is the acronym for "Extra Crispy Taco". I spoke to my service manager and he confirmed it.

I too have been thinking of the simplest thing that could possibly work.

You only need to send a 12v pulse after startup. You could run a wire from pin2 to the gear shift and tap it onto any of the gear select position indicator wires.

    If you tapped N......

So, after you start the vehicle, you would shift from P to D , passing through N. If you tapped N the pulse would be sent to the ecu activating ECT.

Placing the vehicle back in park would cycle it off.

So each time you run the shifter past N it would activate or deactivate ECT.
