Ethanol free gas is awesome. The Subaru STi we have gets an average of 22 mpgs with regular mixed gas. Filled up at a place with non ethanol gas and the mpgs jumped all the way to 26!

Does the extra 4mpg make the extra cost worth it? Ive never done the math because ethanol free is almost non existent around Dallas and if you do find it they charge almost double for it.

14K , is that supposed to be a lot? If it ran for 100K that would be something to write home about, but 14K, meh.

Yeah ts not worth it either way with the increased cost.

Also, a 20% jump in mpg is bogus , especially considering there is only 10% ethanol in the gas most of us buy to begin with. It's not plausible to get a 20% jump by replacing 10% of each gallon with gasoline. To get those MPG improvement ethanol would have to have ZERO energy content!

No just that you are wrong.

E10 has 96.7% energy compared to regular gas, but you are saying you are getting 20% better mileage.

A gallon of pure gas only has , ready, 3.3% more energy then e10, so its not possible for someone to get 20% better MPG. MATH

I think you're going about this too black and white. Engine programing can change mapping and timing based on fuel types. It isnt as simple as calculating straight energy from a fuel. Ethanol based fuel in a turbo charged car isn't going to get the greatest efficiency from that fuel.

This depends on your local pricing. In my area the price is about a wash. The benefit is higher miler per tank. Less fill ups.

Unless the vehicle was tuned to run on non ethanol gas and sucks at compensating for the E content. Ford FFV are supposed to be able to run E85 but the factory E85 tune is garbage and ends up with way more negatives than positives.

Actually turbo cars REALLY like ethanol. But I dont think the factory ECM likes it much.

Right. Ethanol and alcohol are popular with race motors. The down side is they drink a lot of it, which is which is why I think it isn't as efficient in terms of mpgs with the STi.

Yep my Evo was running 4 1050cc injectors and a 300lph fuel pump with E85. I drove it from OKC to Galveston purely on E85 and averaged 14mpg. Lol. But the Z06 i drug almost to houston made it worth it. The lecture I got from my wife about the 4 inch exhaust drone did not though. Oh well.

The mpgs definitely take a little getting use to. Now we have a car that gets just slightly better mpgs than my truck.

    In my impreza ('07, 2.5i) I've seen about a 5-8 mpg difference.
With 85 King soopers gas, I would get around 22 mpg
With 87 King soopers gas, I would get around 24 mpg.
With 88 non etoh gas, I am getting 28.9 to 30.
    85 is 209 ish
    87 is 225 ish
88 non etoh is 222 ish.

The truck gets 88 as often as I can, and I am getting between 23 and 24. The two tanks of 85 w/etoh drop it to 20.5 - 21.2.
Etoh free gas improves mpg's period.

I have no personal "evidence", but I know here in WI there is a push from ethanol lobbyist to allow more than 10% into our gas. Tons of manufactures are fighting this based on there studies that show it damages or prematurely wears engines, especially small engines.

    *again. no expert.

You'd be surprised how many people are in a position to make decisions about Ethanol who know very little about it.
