I tend to chart mileage. Next ethanol free fill up, I'll compare it to an e10 run from last September. I run the same route every week.

Okay update: I've run two tanks ethanol-free. 21.1 gallon tank. 2013 Dcsb taco. 37,500 miles. Haven't swapped plugs yet. Regular, not synthetic oil. 3" lift, 265/75/16 AT tires, 100lbs est. bolt-ons. Volant CAI, Magnaflow single exhaust. 75% highway, 25% city driving. Mostly between 35-65mph. I observe posted speed limit.

    Tank 1: 18.9mpg, 399 mile range
    Tank 2: 19.6mpg, 413 mile range

I just filled up with ethanol-free. Will post those results when I get them. What I've done is recovered my lost mileage after the 3" lift, 100lbs of armor & baskets, and swap to 265/75/16 AT tires over stock Dunlops. I never posted mpg data post-lift because it was so embarrassingly blatant what I'd done to myself. I lost 25% of my mpg and range overnight. Now I'm back to ethanol-blended stock mpgs. If I hadn't modded my truck, my numbers would look GREAT. Still, coming from an '04 F150, 19+mpg is very appreciated.
While I won't be in the market for a new vehicle for another 10 years, I look forward to seeing what the 2018 Ranger and Bronco look like and what numbers they produce. Gas is starting to climb again and I doubt we'll ever see it dip like it did last year. Our next family vehicle will be a Subaru Outback to replace our 160,000 mile '04 turbo VW Passat wagon.

The only reason we are all force fed this crap in our fuel is because of a heavily Gov subsidized farm industry. The farmers pump an over abundance of corn in to the market so the Gov must find ways to make the product viable for the farmer. Burn it in cars, put it in all the food we eat. Its bad for both human consumption and an engines fuel system.

The reason the E10 or 10% Corn Alcohol destroys fuel systems is it adsorbs water from the atmospher of a short period of time. The seals and surfaces in the fuel system corrode and rot when all that water mixes with the fuel. Pull your lawn mower or brush cutter carb off and you will see pink gum and white paste all through it I bet. I don't care what magic rubber and metals the cars use now to help us run E10. The systems and gasoline don't like water.

In a car thats run every week its not a big deal but if you own a classic car or and carb fed seldom used motor don't run E10 fuel.

Recently I tried ethanol free gas in my rig. 3 tankfulls. However the only EF gas available is 91 super, so it's spendy. Lowest price was $2.90 p/gal. However- I am seeing almost 2mpg increase in efficiency. Financially not worth it.

If they had EF in lower grades I'm sure I would run it.

Some stations around here have ethanol free mid-grade. With my Kroger "savings" card, I get an additional .10 off, which makes it comparable to buying high grade fuel.

I wish. There are 6 stations with EF gas in my town- all of them are premium only.

Minor point here. All these fuels are unleaded. So I assume you meant you just filled up with Ethanol blended unleaded? Also assume it's the normal 10% blend at 87 Octane?

Well E-10/e-15 has become a 'standard', so not using it requires more work at the refinery.

Bullshit I know. But that's the way it is.

Ed Wallace at www.insideautomotive.com has been on Ethanol from the beginning. He is a very smart guy, that doesn't have a dog in the hunt, and actually researches issues to death, before speaking about them. He claims the fuel economy is much less with Ethanol and it ruins lawn equipment. I'm sure he has some great info on his website.

Ethanol is added via the tank delivery truck , not at the refinery

Both documented tanks are ethanol free, purchased at the same station found using http://www.pure-gas.org/

I've just filled up with E10 87 octane. I've previously charted 3-tank averages using base, mid-level and premium unleaded e10, finding premium to be a waste of $, giving me 1.5 more mpg on average.

Yup- my bad- fuel blenders add it. However I think the fact that EF is 'non-standard' creates the premium cost spread seen at the pump.

Ethanol free is usually higher octane which is more expensive to manufacture. And ethanol is government subsidized, so they will tell you they are passing the savings on to the consumer.

In a boat, lawn enjoyment, older cars always use non ethanol. In new cars no unless they're going to sit for an extended amount of time.!

Octane is octane and then it's watered down with some bullshit we don't need that does no good and then have to pay more for it to be left out. Short bus logic.

Nothing is "left out" it's still there, they just add the ethanol (remembering gasahol?) they sell 10% less gasoline (replaced by ethanol) that's why the lower octanes cost less.
And yes ethanol is shit we don't need!

ethanol is "left out" of ethanol free gas and it costs more to buy.....that is the bullshit I am referencing. Leaving something out should cost less not more no matter what the topic is. It'd be like paying fully loaded price for a base model truck because they left out more features.
