I doubt the make-up would be much different than my college.

is the 50 dollars for stolen crap or is that the price for the meal plan allowing you to eat in the mess hall. Afriend of mine paid $200 for a semester meal plan which allowed her to eat lunch and dinner no cost out of pocket. 1 semesters worth of lunch's for $50 seems not bad to me. I spend $50 a week on lunchs out here in the non school world

As for the original question, I voted "no". It is unethical. The fee is for loss recovery. IMO, the school should have done a better job of hiding the fee as it is just a cost of doing business. For example, there is no "flour" fee. Everyone pays these fees everyday whether you realize it or not. It's just not itemized when you buy things. A business passing on it's losses to the customer is a normal business practice and doesn't justify theft. Buying a meal plan is his choice (and as such, all the fees that go along with it). If he doesn't want to pay the fee, he shouldn't buy the plan and should eat elsewhere.

It's an extra fee tacked on to the price of the meal plan to cover past losses.
