I definitely wish they sold this version of our Tacoma's in the USA. 5 speed diesel 4 cylinder? sounds great to me! Every time I watch District 9 I drool over the Truck chase. Just wanted to know what everyone else think about the European and Japanese Hilux's. Thanks!

When I lived in Okinawa I saw a few Hilux's... pretty damn nice. They kept the solid front axle under them for a long time. I saw a few landcruiser pickups too, nice ride.

the Hilux Surf, aka 4 Runner also was available with the deisel I believe.

Here are some gearing specs. and the MPG claimed.

"3L Hilux can get approximately 40 miles per gallons. The gear ratio is as follows: first gear is 3.928, second gear is 2.33, third gear is 1.45, 4th gear is, fifth gear is .851 and reverse is 4.743."

Pretty low gearing, the 3L is 22.2 to 1 compression! Dayum.

Here in south america, the toyota Dealer`s, have only Toyota Hilux...inside is smaller than the tacoma...between the seat and steering wheel, are also not much room, the tacoma gen2 have muuuuch more...that was one of the reasons why I bought my gen 2 taco...., the not have much room between the front seat and rear seat..the taco have more room...
but the Hilux have more Load capacity...

MPG...the hilux have a good review... 30mpg urban use...(here in soud america)

but with off-road`s things, the Tacoma dominates over the hilux...the hilux here, have not a LSD locker or some 100% Locker...... only a Stock diff...

Most people in the U.S. buy trucks for the image. They want it to sound tough and look tough on the outside, while having all the creature comforts on the inside that make a little girl happy. The Hi-Lux is the opposite of this, so I doubt Toyota will ever try to sell it in the U.S.
