Looks like it should be badged as an Avalanche not a Silverado.

Or even a cross between an Avalanche and a Ridgeline. I don't like the short bed but at least there is a pass through for longer stuff. And I hate the fixed glass roof. Anyone who has ever had a glass t-top or a sunroof without a shade knows what sitting under a broiler in the summer feels like. I suspect they will try to sell an accessory shade cover.

Interesting article in the NYT today about Tesla. The 2 big takeaways are (1) Tesla has maintained and increased production in spite of the chip shortage by taking chips that are available and repurposing them by creating new firmware and software. And (2) Keeping a lot of the parts manufacturing in-house has insulated them somewhat from parts and materials shortages. Not sure if this will make sense once (if?) the world ever returns to normal, but who knows?

Toyota was able to continue manufacturing. They had a surplus of chips.

Yeah, compared to our local Honda dealers the Toyota folks seem to have more, if not plenty, of vehicles. The Honda lots around here are empty. I mean stripped bare. I had stopped by the Toyota dealer last week to look at a new Tundra listed on their website only to be told that the website was not up to date. LOL. I am not currently in the market, I just wanted to see one IRL. Another local Toyota dealer supposedly has 5 or 6 Tundys "in transit" but I don't know if that is accurate either. Might just be that they have an allocation for those that may be fulfilled in the next couple of months.

And I am in the camp that Toyota and others should eat Tesla's lunch once EVs and hybrids are the majority of sales. The big guys are very good at designing and building vehicles and should be much more efficient at it than Tesla using bespoke parts and components. We'll see.

Attended our local manufacturer's car show yesterday and talked to one of the regional guys. He said they (Toyota) expect to have deliveries ramping up around the end of March, and the rest of the year should be just fine on inventory. (Fingers crossed)

If they want people to switch to EV, they better start making them more affordable.

They are pretty affordable already if you don’t want the high end cool guy version, just like every other type of vehicle. If they produce them as advertised you’ll be able to get a F150 or Silverado EV for about the same price as a Tacoma right now.

List of 2022 least expensive EV's before tax incentives... the myth of 'EV's are too expensive for the average American' is starting to lose its weight. Average car cost in 2021 was $40-$45k. The Nissan leaf can be had for a final price after the $7,500 tax credit for $19,900. Brand new.
