We should be building more nuclear power plants, not shutting down the ones we have, as we move towards increased demand from the grid for EV usage.

Agreed, nuclear is going to have to be part of future power generation to meet our needs just don't see a practical way around it.

We’re too heavily invested in wind and solar to back off now, but there’s no problem with having power on demand to meet gaps in supply from other sources.

Good thing I’m finishing up my electrical engineering degree.. 15 years late

This Rivian I parked next to at the campground the other day would be my next truck if the company survives and prices aren’t insane. The gear tunnel is surprisingly useful, and I love sitting on the gear tunnel step/door thing.

I like the Rivian, though it would take 12 or so years to pay for itself compared to my Tacoma, guessing by that time the batteries would be needing to be replaced.

PHEV Tacoma makes more sense to me, could do my round trip commute on ev mode, and gas for travel.

That would be a great truck if they’d just make it already. It feels like they could have made a PHEV five years ago, but sales were too good and the competition sucked too much to make it attractive.

That is the thing that drives me nuts with Toyota, they really like to drag their feet.

Kinda waiting for Tesla and Rivian to go bankrupt. Then you have expensive yard art. I’ll wait until Toyota has a Hybrid or EV Tacoma.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/washington-state-plans-ban-non-electric-vehicles-2030-rcna21683

Washington state plans to ban most non-electric vehicles by 2030, according to a newly signed bill by Gov. Jay Inslee.

The bill says that all vehicles of the model year 2030 or later that are sold, purchased, or registered in the state must be electric.

"On or before December 31, 2023, the interagency electric vehicle coordinating council ... shall complete a scoping plan for achieving the 2030 target," it reads.

The bill covers a lot of transportation issues in the state and is a part of a larger $16.9 billion transportation package called “Move Ahead Washington," which Inslee described as a way to create more efficient transportation options.

To be repealed if they ever get a sane legislature again.

It says you can’t register past 2030, which would make that a laughably high ROI.

This isn’t feasible, and will just be a can they kick down the road.

No, it says that any vehicle past a 2030 model year must be electric, not that you can’t register an ICE vehicle past 2030.

I'm with a lot of people here, I'd be really interested in a PHEV Tacoma but the charging infrastructure for a pure electric vehicle is just nonexistent up here. I think my town has two charging stations, both in the very centre and none on the sprawling edges? We make a ton of electricity from hydro, wind, solar, and geothermal from dry oil wells but that doesn't exactly help when every other bit of your city's infrastructure is crumbling because it hasn't been maintained since it was put in in the 1960s-70s.

Not to mention getting anywhere from here to the coast, no less going camping for a weekend 200km down a dirt road where you couldn't find cell service after the first 15km. I hope the iForce MAX does well in the Tundra so we could see something similar or plug-in as well for the Tacoma by the next gen. By then electricity generation from braking will likely be improved, electric ranges will likely be improved, batteries, edit: generator/motor tech improved. etc

Yeh different here in the US. You can go coast to coast no problem in an EV

Definitely, I could see it being a slightly more seamless transition than up here. We've got the electricity production for hundreds of thousands of EVs, just no means to charge along highway stretches of nothing but moose, bison, or mountain goat. I'm in the largest town by about 50,000 people in the upper 2/3 of the province, and still little to zero charging stations.
