I've been having EVAP issues with my truck for the past few years. Nothing that causes my truck to not run but Since recently moving to an area that requires me to smog my truck I am forced to finally address the issue at hand. I have had codes P043E, P043F, P2401, P2402, and P2419. I have read and tried all the fixes on this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cel-p043e-p043f-p2401-p2402-and-p2419.187824/ with no success. I have had the dealer replace the filler cap, filler hose, charcoal canister and vacuum pump related to the codes (essentially the entire EVAP system). The last time I went in the repairs were not going to be covered under the warranty anymore, so I replaced the parts myself to save several hundred dollars in labor. cleared the codes and 3 days later they come back.

One of the reasons the dealer has given me before as to why the repairs are no longer covered under the warranty is that I have modified the fuel system. Now what I have really done is installed fiberglass bedsides on my truck, and had to cut the plastic shroud that goes around the filler cap in order to give me access to the filler its self. So they want to say since the wheel well liner is no longer present water is getting into the system and causing problems. Now whether that is true or not I still need to get this issue fixed in order to get my truck smogged and my plates renewed.

I am looking for a shop in the Portland area that will actually fix the problem and prevent it from coming back. I think I need some sort of wheel well liner fabricated to the fiberglass bedsides and maybe even a shroud around the filler cap. I know I'm not the only person to have installed fiberglass bedsides but I feel that I am the only person that has been having this problem judging my the lack of threads found over the past couple years of looking. Will a 4-Runner filler hose be the only solution? PLEASE HELP!

Did they drain your tank to determine there was water in the system? I don't know if water in your gas will cause the EVAP parts themselves to fail but, if not, I would have the tank drained and cleaned to be sure there isn't water in the system. I would do this a day or two before I got it tested so it had time to get clean gas circulating. Clear the codes and get the test. Station tanks in PNW leak all the time. Once I had to have all the injectors replaced on my '09 because of contaminated gas from one. In that case it was water and debris.
