Evap Issue

Correct again. Chicken dinner for 2 Code reading scan tools have limitations as does the ECU. Live data and freeze frame from a proper diagnostic scanner in the right hands and vacuum/pressure gauges plus a smoker are what is needed to fix evap issues

 

To follow up, the part I replaced was the purge valve under the hood. OEM Part Number CP716; CP806; PV854; 2586075230.

Denso calls it purge selnoid and Amazon has capitalized on it by selling the aftermarket dorman part as purge valve thats why the price shows only at checkout. Creates confusion as the cannister valve is under fuel tank and selnoid is under the hood. Anyhow good jod fixing P0441. May your dorman purge valve outlast the denso purge selnoid.

 

UPDATE: I did fix the issue with not starting after fill up, however, my wife let me know that the CEL is back on this AM. Historically it's been the Evap Small leak code which I would imagine that it is again. I can still smell the fuel between the cab and bed, so I'll likely need to take off the bed/drop the tank to inspect the top of the tank for any issues and see if I can track down the smell.

 

Do you get a hiss when slowly removing the fuel cap, engine off after driving? Same hiss after engine cools overnight?

 

I haven't noticed one, but I'll be sure to check that next time I get the chance. I'm out of town until late Wednesday, so I won't have the opportunity to try until Thursday.

 

I replaced my gas cap, no CEL for a month. Replaced Denso purge selnoid, CEL back in 90 miles 3 days. Polished the fuel filler neck where the cap O ring seats and flipped the O ring over cause the filler neck buggered it up a little before polishing it. All new silicone vac hoses.CEL stayed OFF at last.

 

I have P0441, P0442, P0446 codes. Are all of them related? I replaced gas cap and am thinking about getting part #911-675 listed here.
Will the replacement part take care of all the codes?

 

Hello, I just got your PM. All three codes are related to EVAP system. P0442 is a small leak in system. P0441 and P0446 are incorrect flow/no flow. Polish the gas filler neck where the gas cap O ring makes contact, lube with petroleum jelly. Replace Purge selnoid valve. Replace vac lines. I used thick wall silicone vac line sold as a set on all but the brake booster vac line.

 

I will test the purge valve using a 9v battery just to make sure it works using the method on this page.

If I replace the purge valve and the check engine light comes back on should I do a smoke test?

I know this thread is a few years old but I just picked up an 02 Tacoma and have a engin light on as well. Don’t remember the code but I cleared it and it came back on after 5 days. I’ll go scan again today.

truck seems to run fine but my issue is filling the tank. The pump pops every few seconds and take like 20 min to fill up. Any idea what would cause that?

also I do get the hissing when I open the cap like it’s purging the air pressure.

If they're all good, then perhaps try a smoke test to see where the leak is coming from.

CHARCOAL CANISTER !! I had same exact issue with my 2004 Tacoma . Would not start after fuel without cranking and cranking . NO CODE FOR ME .. I changed the purge valve , fuel, filter , fuel injectors , fuel regulator before I bit the bullet and removed the bed ( 4 bolts ) and then changed the charcoal canister ( Amazon $340) I also replaced fuel pump for the hell of it while I was there .. charcoal canister was all dry and you could shake the stuff around to inside . 99% it’s your canister .
