So my evap system has a small leak so the first thing I checked was the vacuum lines, which looked ok, so then I checked the valves and I wasn't sure what the normal state of the evap obd canister closed valve is. I would assume closed because it is in the name but when I disconnected the hoses I could blow through it which means it is open. This part is around $80 so I just want to make sure that it is supposed to be closed or not before I buy the replacement.

I attached a picture of the part that I am referring to.

Hey, how did you know that you had a leak? Mine seems to be hyperactive so that it cycles continuously after I shut off my truck and wears the battery down. I'm trying to figure out a solution besides going to the stealership and telling them that I'm a feckless sap who hates my wallet and begging them to fix it for me.

My check engine light was on and the diagnosis was a small leak in the EVap system. I removed the valve and hooked it up to a power source to close it and when I blew in it a small amount of air was going through. This valve is the test valve so when it is testing to see it there are any leaks it closes and since there was a small leak it turned on the check engine light.

Gotcha. Well, I'm not getting a CEL and my OBDII throws no codes, so I really don't know what to do with this now. I put a new gas cap on there hoping that was it but no joy there. Maybe it's not EVAP but something going on with the intercooler.
