This system has nothing to do with liquid fuel….
This system contains the vapors that’s given off from the fuel and stores it until it can be reintroduced into the intake.
The air pump system injects air into the cat converters to speed up the warm up time to get them operating at the proper temp.
Lots of bullshit that costs a lot of money..

To be on the safe side, I wouldn't drive at 88 mph, just in case.

Do you look for the components? Or only if the code pops up? Supposed to be a safety inspection.

That is my thought too. This truck was USED!.. I will talk to the previous owner this weekend. On the positive side, it was a family transfer, so a good deal either way.

Another thought.. If all the components are there, and it still throws the codes, can you still fail it? It is a safety inspection after all.

It will operate as a vent just fine. Just doesn't have the charcoal filter to absorbe the particles on the way out. That's why it fails inspection

Charcoal filter is still there but I think it has been bypassed. This is not an emissions inspection. it is failing because they say the emissions equipment was "Tampered with".

It is not failing due to the code, but due to the fact that the inspector can see the taped up monstrosity that is hanging under the hood.

Wonder if I clear the codes, cover the hole and drive 100 miles if it would pass?

I have no idea. Just throwing this out there. I wonder if the previous owner damaged the evap system prior to the hack job? Overfilling your gas tank can do that causing expensive repairs. Was this their way of somehow trying to do a work around?

Yes I look for components regardless of emissions requirements or not. They explicitly say the vehicle has to have the same emissions equipment that it came with from the factory. If that truck in that condition came into my shop I would assume you were a DMV undercover cop and glady fail it.

No. Mode 6 monitor will not be ready and will fail you.

I think some state systems have records of the reasons, that other state inspection site (ie shops) can and will read. They are used to this game: fail at Shop A, customers takes it to shop B. Now if you properly replaced it all and it works, then mission accomplished, but if this is true in your state, this is where shop B is going to start.

Same as "all you can eat". The owner can tell you, or you can decide.

"Safety inspection" has dual meanings. I'll give you a tip. It's not the driver's safety that they're checking for.

I understand the Safety inspection. I don't understand the reference to "all you can eat".... Unless you mean all you can put up with?

Seems like this fair country was a little free-er not too long ago. "Tampering" with my own vehicle, sounds like they own part of it. Seems like I paid for all of it, and continue to pay taxes, tags, and legislated insurance on the full amount. Not a problem, but shouldn't be too hard. Should be some intelligence involved, someone to talk to. Not just a computer read out..

Don't start thinking about property taxes friend. It'll just drive you nuts.
