Even after all the negative I've read here, I still want one. Am I crazy ?

I got my Tacoma in April. Just went on a nice road trip and put 500 miles on it. Ran great, not a single issue. You will love it.

True statement. I mainly purchased a tacoma due to its renowned longevity and resale value. Its plus factor is its fun to drive.

Look, buy it and motor on. I speak from experience, I am the original owner of a Gen 1 with 246,000+ miles. Tacoma trucks just have a way of becoming part of your life, you'll have no regrets. I plan on keeping mine forever, or at least until I cannot drive a stick any more. And, yes I am older than most here on the forums and love to drive a stick and would buy another. I think you need to be a more attentive driver to shift for yourself.

Lol, I’ve had more standard transmission cars than automatic. I’ve been driving standards long enough to know they can be a pain in the ass. I have 3 cars at the moment and one is a standard and it’s my toy. But for something I’m going to use in all kinds of situations, to hell with that - I’m buying the automatic.

I'm soooo sorry to hear that. :-(

Now, seriously, I would take an MT even in the traffic, I like to control the vehicle myself. But I know I am in minority, and one day all cars and trucks will be self-driving anyways. Until then, MT

Wondered this too. Newest member to join today is Member #306322.

And OP, go for it man! I've been in Toyota trucks since 1985 and all were MT's until my latest. Each have their advantages and drawbacks. MT's do keep people from wanting to borrow or even steal your truck...

Why are people pimping the standard transmission? I don’t want a standard.

    Just find it funny

I’ve been answering “get a manual” on almost every thread in here... 99% of all threads here ends ends talking about the weird shifting issues of the auto trans... it does not matter how or why the thread started.. mod, suspension, audio..... it always ends in tranny.. it is pretty funny..

I had an auto 2.7 and liked it but always thought: what if I bought 3.5 and manual... Now that I have it I enjoy everything single shift.. 99% of my driving is stop and go.. but I still love it.

That’s why I strongly suggest to anyone to try manual..

I still make fun of guys that cannot drive stick. My sister drives a manual. I think everyone should own a manual trans at least once in their life.

The amount of negative press is from slushbox owners. So if you had any reservations it is a safer bet to get the manual. Also it is better. Also you will be very awesome for driving manual.

Back in the day, in high school, my first truck was a manual. Never again. Trying to finger-bang chicks in stop-and-go traffic is damn near impossible.

Thing is, with the 4.3 gears, it's nbd, just crawl along. The manual makes the truck sing.
