I used to use WD-40. Now I use Fluid Film and cheap cable/chain lube from Wal Mart. In the sandwiched areas of the frame, it wicks in really well. Those are the areas I'm most concerned with.

I also hose it up into the drain holes in my doors and rockers. It'll drip out for a few days so don't park on your concrete pad. I took the inner liner off my tailgate this summer and hosed the inside of it down really well too.

I don't care if it stays wet. In fact, it'll wear off the open portions and stay active in the small areas that would normally be occupied with water and salt.

I like to coat it all really well when it's still hot out so it can creep even more.
I sold my 98 T-100 this spring. The rockers and cab corners were still solid. I never did the doors on that truck so they were starting to rust along the bottoms. I won't make that same mistake on my new Taco.

History is NOT an indicator in this situation, except that Toyota has ONLY previously extended warranty to swap out rusted frames that were **manufactured by DANA**. Dana is no longer manufacturing frames.

It’s about the perception of quality. The consumer doesn’t care what oem supplier made the frame. If the perception is 2011+ frames have widespread rusting issues similar to the ones manufactured by Dana, Toyota will be forced to act. They have made a substantial investment already to make good on quality issues. This has helped them maintain their reputation of a company that stands behind their product. Do you think they would squander that investment by letting the narrative take hold they don’t back their products?

If there are widespread rusting issues with 2011+ frames, similar to previous years, it is a better than 50% bet Toyota will act.

What that action is and how it affects any one customer will depend. There is still plenty of risk to 2011+ owners.

Personally I would act as if Toyota will do nothing, because I prefer to play it safe.

It had NOTHING to do with "customer perception", and everything to do with TOYOTA SUED THE ASS OFF OF DANA.
