On my way to work tonight and I knew how far the Marathon station was and with what my miles til empty was showing, it was going to be close:goingcrazy:.
Just curious if anyone has ever run the tank completely dry? If so, how accurate is the miles til empty counter?

I've gone 10+ miles after that hits 0. At zero, you get about 18gal in the tank with a 21.1 gal tank capacity, so ~3 gal left after 0. So a very safe 30miles left once it states 0 miles left.

Why risk it? Always good to have fuel in the tank considering how things are nowadays

*never lets gas go below 1/4 tank crew*

Old wives tale on anything even remotely modern. As you can see with 0 left on that gauge there is still 3 gals in the tank, which is more than enough to cool the pump. If you run to 0 on that gauge then fill up each and every time, then you will do absolutely no damage, or excessive ware. The damage comes from constantly being on E, ie run to almost out of gas, then only putting a few gals in the tank, and repeating that all the time.

False. I use to run my Evo on low fuel A LOT. (I could always feel the extra weight of a full tank) First pump went out, thought it was a fluke.. but after the 2nd Walbro fuel pump smoked, I put 2 and 2 together. Pumps rely on the gas surrounding it to keep it cool and increase longevity. Albeit those were high performance pumps so factory might be a little better... but still the same logic applies.

But on topic, I've went ~20miles after it hit zero. Wasn't by choice but there is always some gas left in there even when the light is on.

The tank, gauge and counter are very accurate. I have run mine down to around .5 gallons left ( well past 0 on the gauge cluster). Wasn't intentional, just the area I was in had really high gas prices 30 to 50 cents higher than across town where I had to go anyway. I thought I had enough to do my day, I ended up stopping and putting a couple of bucks in.

If you really want to know, it's pretty easy to figure out. Put a gas can in the bed and drive till you can't. Fill it up and drive to the gas station.

By those assumptions, I could call your statement false. I've got 160k on my Tundra and it's never seen gas before the light came on, still origional pump & filters. Similar situation for every 4 wheeled vehicle I've owned, and I've never had to replace a fuel pump. I can't say the same for 2 wheeled vehicles, im always replacing pumps on my bikes, and they rarely see empty.

But, your personal experience and mine, is irreverent as there are too many other factors in play.

I filled up at 2.17 the other day, recent transplant from Wa so I am still in awe of how cheap fuel is in AZ.

It is not, if the vehicle is still running then the pump is fine. The fuel going through the pump is its lubricant and coolant (not that they build much heat on something as low power as these trucks) the high pressure pump under the hood for your direct injection is also fine as long as the vehicle can still run. You just don't ever want to run a pump dry, that is no bueno.

My sister is in paradise valley

    Housing dirt cheap
    Gas dirt cheap
She makes more in her medical practice than she did in ca - thus her take home is a lot higher

Yup she pays $650 a month for electric
But given she has a new Ferrari 488 daily driver there and was slumming it in Los Angeles in a base 911, she ok With the ac bill :)

I have lived in WA. Women in AZ Way more attractive

Lets be real here though. Everything breaks on a DSM/Mitsu. Former GS-T owner here back in the day. Also since you were running a walbro it could need more fuel for cooling than an OEM pump. I used to run low all the time when I was a teen and never broke a fuel pump.
