The double cab's granddaddy! These were really made, guess they were only sold in Africa and in right hand drive exclusively. Pretty cool I thought.

I think it's cool as heck, I want one. Have to get used to shifting with my left hand though which would be weird and I'd always be trying to get in the left side!

I had one of those in South Africa. Awesome vehicles. I had about 250,000 km on it when I sold it and it was still as solid as a new one. It was a 2.4 diesel. Newer ones are 3.0 diesel - also comes in gas, but I don't even know what sizes - never cared for gas (aka petrol) when there were diesel options available :)
When I came to the US in 1997 I could not believe that double cabs were not available here - all the dealers told me that there was no market for small crew cabs. Boy were they wrong - most of the small trucks sold now are double cabs.

That is sweet! Yeah I can't believe Toyota didn't offer double cabs here long before 2001. Really sucks because double cab first gens are so rare. Think Dodge was one of the first to come out with a 4 door Dakota, Ford never did with the Ranger and it took Nissan and Chevy awhile to come to the party too.

That is so cool, a double cab diesel, what a dream come true! Wonder if a guy could buy a left hand drive out of Europe and bring it to the US, bet it would be a pain in the ass but could probably be done. I've heard of people importing diesel Hiluxes here in the past.

That one was a left hand drive. I talked to a guy who bought it from this place where I saw it for sale. He said the guy he bought it from, was originally from the Netherlands, and he had it shipped here, and used it as his daily driver for years. I also saw the same guy driving newer styled european land cruisers as well.
Either would be a pretty cool ride though.
