I was thinking more like fiberglass or carbon fiber. Or even trex-type wood products. Strong-but-brittle liquid material, the brittleness overcome with some kind of binder.

That's what I thought. That ash is carbon. The filters...fuck if I know. I like to think they are cotton, but because tobacco industry, probably asbestos impregnated with opioids.

Now I want to ask a smoking friend to give me all their full ashtrays. Because thats totally normal.

    plastic cellulose acetate fibre

They're typically made from Plastic Cellulose Acetate Fibre. They dont break down, which is why I hate people that throw them off of the boat when we are out fishing. Pure litter.

That's how you help propagate that naaaaasty sargasso seaweed shit with the flesh eating virus. In the long run, though, could improve the gene pool down there.

Aaaaaand thats where you are wrong.

The flesh eating bacteria has ZERO to do with the sargasm, that comes from the fertilizer and septic systems that flow into Lake Okeechobee, it blooms in there, then when the lake gets to high they dump it into the rivers flowing east and west and fuck up our estuaries.
Sargasm is an ocean plant that floats with the currents creating habitat for juvenile fish, which creates feeding grounds for the larger target species.
I applaud the effort to sound smart though.

I realize the plant is just a plant and provides habitat and has been a natural feature of the Atlantic, chief, and is not itself the cause of the flesh eating bacteria. It is the human made synthetic shit that gets caught in it that is the issue. And I don't applaud your effort to be patronizing.

I hope you are still open minded enough to consider educational research.

I understand your research, however, since I live here that is not the problem we are having with bacteria. Yes, we have an influx of sargasm this year, massive mats of it out there and it is landing on our beaches.
However, in my attempt to not be patronizing, with the assumption that you DON'T know the real cause of our plight, here is some "research" for you:

Not entirely accurate, as that is a biopolymer, so uv light will degrade them. IIRC, from the water treatment systems that I worked on, life span is 4 months to infinite, depending on the bioactivity level of where they end up. They make bazillions of those things a year, so we would be waste deep if they didn't break down. Once the paper is gone they don't last. Plastics, pesticides, and fertilizers don't break down for a much longer time.
