PISS-POOR Toyota customer service. The TSB clearly acknowledges the problem is in '05 through '10 models, but will only do the fix...

...IF THE VEHICLE IS W/I WARRANTY (36,000mi/36MONTHS).

So that means they won't fix the identified issue in '05's, '06's, '07's trucks. Seems if they have admitted to a design flaw, and determined a fix, it shouldn't be treated as a warranty issue.

My 07 barely qualifies, I only have ~24k miles on it, but the factory warranty expires on 1/5 and my appointment is on 1/3

Mine does the same. I'm to the point I almost don't care anymore. It's like it just has an incredibly shitty suspension up front. I've never driven a vehicle that felt worse on rough surfaces.

I'm not really sure what it is. Both my steering and ride quality on rough surfaces really sucks. I get quite a bit of "bump steer" too. Certain imperfections and bumps in the road tend to knock my wheels one direction or the other momentarily on a regular basis.

The tsb will fix that sloppy steering you are feeling. It did on mine.

Wow I am so glad I found this thread on the board. My 2010 Double Cab 4X4 now has 17,000 miles and I have been feeling the vibration and noise described for quite some time now, but figured it was just the way the truck handled. I really wish Toyota would at least inform the customer of these TSB's during their service visits. I had to search this board for the TSB on my squeaky fan motor and bring it to my dealer in order to get them to act upon it, even after describing the problem to two separate service advisors on two separate occasions. Keep up the good work with the threads on these boards, the information is very much appreciated!

Just had my 2011 DC at the dealer for what I thought was a brake rattle. I could only hear a rattle when the windows were down going over bumps and it would stop if I hit the brakes. Dealer looked at it, test drove it and determined it was the intermediate shaft and ordered the parts. I am not sure I agree with him as the steering wheel doesn't feel loose its just the annoying rattle when the windows are open.

My question is to those who have had this tsb done is was the rattle something you heard in the cabin while going over bumps with the windows closed or was it similar to mine with windows open. I asked the tech why it would stop after I put pressure on the brakes and his reply was that when you hit the brakes it tightens everything up so it won't rattle. I'm not much of a mechanic but it sounds like BS to me. Any opinions?

Give me a bit more info on what this "rattle" sounds like. When I hit a bump, hole, small mammal, etc., I get a metalic sound. It sounds like a few loose washers on a bolt being shaken. Is this the same noise as in the TSB?

BTW, I only heard this noise when the windows are down, or sometimes windows up, but very quiet in the cab (no radio, wife, kids.....).

Does anyone know if the rattling sound can be recreated in the driveway?

Mine does exactly what yours is doing. Sounds like something loose and can only hear it when windows are down and radio off. Explained that to the dealer before he test drove it. Told them I thought it was the brakes rattling and after test driving and pulling the wheels off to mess with the anti rattle clips they insisted it was the intermediate steering shaft. We'll see, but I don't think that's it. I have none of the other symptoms others have described. I can't recreate the noise in the driveway. I've been under the truck with a rubber mallet about a half a dozen times tapping on anything and everything. The only thing I found were some small stones in the skid plate rattling around but that wasn't it.

I saw that. I'm pretty anal about my truck so this rattle is making me talk to myself

Interesting, let me know if the TSB does or doesn't help. I know with mine I can recreate the sound with a bump in the road. Was also going to go under the truck with a deadblow hammer and try to find it, but haven't done that yet.
