Good info. I've noticed something similar with my truck when going offroad or even over large speed bumps, but figured it was the suspension, not the steering. I'll mention it to them next time I take it in for service.

What was that bad, the rattle or did you feel it loose? I am not getting any play in the steering wheel just hear the rattle.

I don;t reccommend the dealer doing ANYTHING that is not absolutely necessary. I take mine in for oil changes and Manufacturer service as long as the warranty is in play. After that I have a great mechanic to work on the routine things. If I need more spring I will install airbags. My neighbor having be a 30 plus year Dealer mechanic schooled me on the ins and outs of "dealer service" and the pay structures is not in favor of the consumer.

NO TSBs for me unless they are absolutely necessary. This applies to all dealers as far as I am concerned. The less they mess with your vehilce the less likely they will cause new issues then hide them.

I live right around the corner from a set of train tracks that you not only drive over but are on an angle and you make a right hand turn over them. It is a crazy looking corner but when i drove over them the steering wheel shook in my hands. It felt like someone forgot to tighten up the bolts there was a slight rattle sound too but the shake was way more concerning. The new shaft fixed it.

Had the tsb done today and there is a noticeable difference in the steering wheel, just feels tighter and you don't feel the bumps through the steering wheel. I didn't really think anything was wrong with it I just figured it was a small truck and that was normal. They told me it needed to be done and while I am glad I had it done the damn rattle is still there. I went for a ride with one of the service guys who apparently has had a few Tacoma's and he tells me that the rattle is normal on the Tacoma, called it the "Tacoma Rattle", said the brake shoes sit loosely in the caliber and just move around. I hear what he is saying but I don't like it. Does everyones taco do this? Is there a fix or something I can do myself to make it stop? I don't think I'm being unreasonable to not want a 30k truck to sound like it's 100 years old every time I go over some bumps or a manhole.

Dam I tried to get this steering TSB a few months back when I got my TSB leafs but when I came back to pick it up they said the vibration/rattling was coming from my skid plate! (Cause my skid plate looks f***ed up from offroading, dam cheap skid....) And they even quoted me $300 to replace the skid....wtf!

I wish they had a gravel/ dirt road somewhere near so I can prove it

My Dealer said that this TSB is only for the USA not for Canada and that they would not even look at it. now I don't think my truck is doing it but I'm not really sure cause when I go over bumpy roads and we got a lot in Montreal! the truck seems to hop and be a bit sloppy I wonder if there is a so called Canadian TSB?

    Many, the list goes on..
I sent an email and attached the tsb and the dealership gave me no problems at all and actually gave me a rental car to drive while it was being worked on. Glad I had it done.

x2. What's more riduculous is that this issue has been present for years the older tacos and 4runners.

Wondering what it is that causes it to happen to some and not the others. Where it was built, do you think? Or how the truck is used? Or like the Lexus valve spring recall where it was a defective part perhaps?

Do you drive on pavement only or rutted gravel roads is more like it .

the issue is caused by excessive play in the intermediat shaft.....
its just an annoying issue thats all......
i would say its happens more to trucks that see lots of off road use ..... like mine:D
    but i may be wrong......
some people have had great results in using the zip tie method to take up the slop

    Okay thanks guys.

    *sigh*

I've only had possession of my new truck for five days and already I've had it in for three TSB's. I'm already stressing out. :( A new truck shouldn't be like this. Am I'm the first owner!!

Do you think the dealer will do it with aftermarket suspension on my truck?
