Everyone uses new coils on 5100's?

Anyone just running 5100's set at 0 with original coils, Or even set at .85? I need tires and a kid starting college so kind of on a budget, around $500-ish (not counting tires).

My main goal is ride improvement with 5100's, a slight lift is nice but not needed. I'm not looking to wear components prematurely. It just seems all I read is everyone that has 5100's seems to add new coils... and many don't have them at 0 or .85.

I'm sure this has been discussed, there's just so many threads (I realize I'm muddying the water even more).

Also, and I know this is a bit off topic and I'm really just typing out loud here... 3" pro-comp lift for around $500!!?? Gotta be a, get what you pay for situation....... right?

Tons of people just use the 5100s with stock coils, nothing wrong with that

You can use stock springs with 5100s. For tires look at Discount Tires, they always run great sales. Cooper AT3 or Falken AT3 are both great options.

Hey man I am in same boat and when I asked every one had the same answer especially for our applications and needs (non-4wheeling or heavy off road use).

I just installed 5100's on the rear, with stock coils and it's like I'm driving a new Tacoma, just amazed how it keeps contact with the road and a soft ride.

Guess I'm hesitant to drop big dollars on 5100's if the difference between those and used trd shocks and coils isn't much a jump.

I was thinking hankook dynapro atm. Copper at3 are nice too... Guess that's off topic.

What year is your truck and how many miles?

Mine is a 2014 with 33k on it now. Even though stock shocks still performed almost like new the upgrade to 5100's though was well worth it. I also installed Eibach 1.6" springs in the front. Truck went from driving like a limp noodle to actually being firm. I have a touch more body roll but I removed the sway bar.

I don't think it helped that I have exceeded the load rating in the past + I have a heavy cap on 24/7. My truck used to jump around at times, now it's solid as a rock and it's definitely safer.

I haven't installed my front shocks and was debating to let them go one more year, but just new rear 5100's made it feel like new.

I currently have 5100s set at .85 with stock sport coils and the ride is greatly improved over stock imo. Also have the Hankook ATMs (265/70/17) and have been very happy with them so far.
However, over winter I will be changing coils and upgrading the rear suspension to get around 2" all around .

I really can't afford to pay someone to install them and don't feel confident enough to install the fronts myself, so I may wait till I have saved more.

Unless your stock shocks (Bilstein 4600's) are worn out, 5100's won't change much as far as ride goes.....5100's are the same EXACT shock internally as the 4600. The ONLY difference is the outer housing's finish, and of course, the adjustability. Increasing preload with same coils will result in a stiffer ride.

    So
If this is true and I'm ok with not lifting then it would be stupid of me to spend hundreds more on 5100's over the yellow bils.
My truck is a 2012 4x4 v6 double cab. Non trd and non sport.

Do TRD, sport and non all have different coils?
Also, the sports come with an anti sway bar?
