So I have had my truck or about a week now(07 82,000 miles 4.0 Auto, well maintained) I have ran into a couple of things I thought were strange and all has turned out to be normal....
    1. Engine Ticking...Normal
    2. Strange humming sound coming from front passenger side when truck is put into drive after sitting for a while(only last a second or two)...Normal, ABS Calibrating.
    3. Strange hard shifting, downshifting when going down hill...Normal

This is my first toyota, and let me say I am enjoying it. Thank You TW fro helping me with my new addiction...ps my wife hates you! haha

one thing about the shifting that ive read about these trucks (with you being a new owner to that truck) is it will "learn" you. the electronic monitoring of the transmission was "used to" the previous owners habits. after it gets used to your driving habits the hard shifting should ease off soon.

someone with more knowledge of that ^^^ feature is more than welcome to contradict and correct me. i just remember reading and seeing a post by moderator "Forerunner" a while back about it.

and about the engine ticking, mine does too. not in a bad way, and not in the way worn out engines, or engines with not enough or the wrong oil do, but just a light tick. whether yours is "normal" is hard to call with this just being the interweb and us having no audio or video of it, but what do you know about the oil that is in it? did the previous owner just get it changed from somewhere where they put in the cheapest stuff, are you sure he/she ran the correct fluids? all things to consider with an engine "tick".
