    The nutcracker is going to be a gift for my mom this Christmas (got it for free with my Mini and Telehandler). I'm going to buy this snowglobe to go along with it!

    The USAF will pay to ship your Taco back to the mainland as well, right? You're active-duty?

    Yup they’ll ship it back but only one car. So they’ll ship my wife’s car and I’ll pay to ship the taco out of pocket.

    So, @Sear87 recommended that I get the Bucket Wheel Excavator. What do you think of this set?

    Alright. So I'm at a loss, Lego-wise. My niece is 3 1/2 and my nephew is barely a year. I want to grab some Lego gifts for when they visit for Christmas, but I'm unsure as to what. Everything I see seems to be aged 7+ but when I visited la famiglia over the summer my niece and I played with my and my sister's old Lego sets like bosses. Not sure who was the real child between us and had more fun. Any suggestions? Or at least good places to look?

    Picked this up at Target today (technically yesterday) for like twenty bucks! The reason I bought it is because unlike other LEGO boats I've seen, it actually floats!

    image.jpg

    Did you really think my boat's maiden voyage was going to be in the bathroom sink or even the kitchen sink?!?!
    image.jpg

    Bathtub, baby!
    image.jpg image.jpg

    The shark floats, but only if the mouth is closed. The buoy floats, sort of...

    @EODTRD
    @Sear87

    The Mine Loader is the next one my list...

    Only $50 and it has the functional engine I've come to love so much!

    The VW Beetle is on my Christmas list. If my parents don't buy it for me, I'll put the money my various relatives give me towards it...

    Good choices!

    image.jpg

    It's a neat build, but for the price and what's in it I felt it was just okay. The front suspension and rear driveshaft are interesting mechanisms, but the overall build wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped.

    Definitely worth picking up on sale, but at full retail I'd look at other sets first, particularly those that have already been out for a while. (the aforementioned Mine Loader for example)

    I mainly bought it to build the 40th anniversary car chassis:

    You really can't go wrong with one of the basic boxes or buckets of assorted bricks. They come in a decent range of parts count/price point. Examples:

    https://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-Medium-Creative-Brick-Box-10696

    https://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-Creative-Supplement-10693

    What other things interest your niece? You might be able to find some sets in similar themes. For your nephew, look at some Duplo. The online Lego store is a good place to start looking, or any place that carries toys, really. (Target, Walmart, etc.) General selection doesn't vary too much by location.

    As far as the printed age range, I wouldn't weigh too heavily on it. Find something that looks fun and interesting, but not too complicated for little kids. Unless you're shopping for yourself, then go crazy.

    I hope this is helpful; looking back over it seems kind of non-answerish.

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    I had the same issue when ours closed. Even with 40% discount it was cheaper to go to Walmart. Total rip off.
    I feel the same way. I would have to buy all 2 or 3 sets.

    You know you're getting old when you buy your own Christmas present online with your own credit card, with the understanding that your dad will pay for that particular item and the gift will be wrapped under the tree on Christmas morning!

    I bought a snow globe for my mom and a snow globe for my grandmother, and I was going to buy the Beetle today but the damn thing is on back order until as late as December 10th! The London Bus was going to be my Christmas present from my parents but the Beetle was back ordered, so I bought the bus for myself and Beetle is going to be what I find under the tree this year...

    So lego made it official. The diner will be the new modular for 2018. I'm pretty hyped about it, however I'm more hyped for the promotional item given away in January for $125 purchase. It's a special 60 years of lego set. It has 4 mini builds in it. It looks pretty kewl.
