So I’ve came across an awesome deal on a semi pre built Millennium Falcon 75912 set. It’s the $800, retail, set for anyone wondering. It looks to be at least half way finish and the rest are still in their original numbered bag. I don’t know where the original owners left off.
So what would be the best approach to this? Should I finish the ship by building onto the existing pieces already put together or tear down the whole ship and start from brick one? If I tear it down it will take longer to finish because I would have to fine all the pieces in the pile. I was also thinking if I break it down I can try to separate the pieces by the bag number they would have been in.
Any ideas or suggestions on how I should tackle this ship?

I would break it down and separate the pieces by type, if you're intent on starting over.

That’s what I was thinking would probably be best. Maybe I can try to break it down section at a time because I would need a whole room to layout all these pieces.

Anyone built this set yet? As new, I would think this set would easily be over 30 hours. Being in the state it’s probably almost double the time frame.

need to learn more about this stuff
10000% breakdown. One big pile. Find the pieces.
I’m a tear all bags open and dump in a pile kind of guy. Finding the pieces is half my fun. Makes the experience take longer. Makes it a more patient process. Love it!

I would definitely tear down and start over. Keep track of any missing pieces. Tear down is not to find missing pieces but I enjoy the build more than the finished product and you can buy individual pieces. Way to go! I want that set but $800 is a little steep.:spending:

I've built mine. I don't know hours wise because I was doing about a bag a day to stretch the build out. Adam Savage did a build video.

Will do. Thanks for the input. Yea $800 is kind of steep but you can find them sometimes lower on eBay. I think Target did a price mistake once and it went for around $400-$500(?). Even then that's still a lot of money but would be more worth it since you get more pieces per dollar amount.

Through the years I still have a few sets that I haven't built yet, all these are 1500-2000 pcs per set.

So my son is 3 now and we graduated him from Duplo to classic at Christmas. And I got my old Legos (late 60s and up) from storage. This was one of the later ones (mid 70s maybe, still need to research). Definitely a team effort at this age, but he loves it.

I have that one too. My son and I built it when he was about six years old. Fortunate you still have the original box. I did not have the box but I had all of the original instructions

Box is rough, and it was still partially built. I tore it apart except for the back storage bay doors/engines he kept wanting to put them on before it was time lol. And forklifts FTMFW.
I've been pulling up PDFs of old instructions and sets like mad trying to piece together some really old stuff. And then my wife brought our hers/her brothers. There is WAY to much for right now. Then I started researching storage systems. And then I found an analysis, complete with graphs, of storage preferences by age. And then I went and poured a bourbon.
