Hello all, long time creeper of this thread first time poster. Love seeing all your folks builds, a few are making me want to get back into the technic side of LEGO.

Little about myself, I’m 31 and I’m sure like most of you I grew up playing with LEGO. The sets I collected as a kid were the Aquaraider’s, Aqua sharks, and Star Wars. I had pretty much all of the raiders and shark collections but for Star Wars I only had 7144 and 715O (slave and tie fighter & y wing). Unfortunately my mum was one that gave toys away after one shows a loss of interest so therefor they’re all gone.

Fast forward to my mid 20’s and I found myself one summer with a broken collar bone from mountain biking and a bunch of free time. After wandering around the local Walmart looking for something to occupy my time with I decided to buy an X-wing. Always wanted one as a kid and decided it was time to buy one.

The first X wing was Poe’s blue and grey one, shortly after I purchased the black and orange one. Then came Yoda’s Jedi Star fighter, then I believe I found an old one of Anakin’s which then sparked the collector in me and I started to search out the rest of the Jedi star fighters on eBay to which I found them all except for Ashoka’s, for less than retail value shipped. Had quite an impressive fleet of star fighters for a little while. Got a couple tie fighter’s and a AT-ST, as well as a Y wing after remembering my youth. About a year latter two things happened that made me sell off my collection. I had to move / downsize and it wasn’t looking like I was going to be able to bring my toys, and LEGO released a new tie fighter / AT-ST and a few others in the first order’s colour ways which I thought were much cooler than the ones I bought the year before. Expanding my fleet wasn’t an option so I decided to sell. I actually ended up making a bit of money off all the older star fighters I got off eBay which I thought was kinda strange but they went up significantly in value in the years time I had them and everything I bought new in stores I bought on sale, most weren’t on the shelves anymore and I ended up breaking even. No more LEGO but it wasn’t a financial mistake to enjoy collecting for a year or two.

And finally fast forward to last christmas and I was in toys r us looking for a toy or game for a gift for the girlfriend and myself, something we could do together over the holidays. That something ended up being the LEGO Harry spotter Knight Bus, I figured she’s a Millennial like myself so she definitely grew up with HP and the bus was 50% off so there wasn’t much to lose.

Well the joke was on me, turns out my girlfriend wasn’t just a lover of LEGO but also a toy collector in her past. The knight bus was quickly built and then we were off to toys r us to buy 4 private drive and the whomping willow, and she hasn’t stopped buying since

sorry for the long back story, just wanted to say hi and introduce myself before I start getting active in here.

I didn’t know the Gryffindor dorm room existed, looks like I’ll be buying the chamber of secrets off LEGO.com then.

Welcome aboard! I'm 49 and just getting into it myself. My brother and I had a box full of lego pieces as kids, but never really did anything with them. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, I was passing the Lego store in the mall and saw a Fender Strat set. Bought it on a whim, put it together with the wife, and now I'm working on a double decker bus. Fun times!

I’ve been eye balling the strat as well but I don’t have anywhere to put it.

Question for you folks, what do ya’ll do about dust control for stuff displayed on a shelf? I don’t have anywhere to set up a display case in my current living situation so most of my stuff sits on my closet shelf for now until we find a house we actually wanna buy and can set up a LEGO room.

I’ve been disassembling sets and putting them back away in there boxes for now to try and keep the dust off them.

What’s everyone think about the technic Ford Raptor? My local Costco has them for 31$ cheaper than anywhere else. YouTube reviews on it are pretty mixed, some are pretty disappointed about the lack of 4WD.

Anyone manage to get the Titanic on preorder? For some reason the option wasn't there for me today and now it's sold out.

As much as I want that, I can't get over that price.

I buy 2 of the big sets. 1 for me and one as an investment for later. Will make the first free.

Maybe that's just me, but I just leave them on the shelf and maybe blow them off with some compressed air like once a month. The dust is also way less noticable on darker pieces.

It looks cool but doesn't have enough features for me, granted for sentimental reasons I did buy Dom's Charger which has the same features, the motor is pretty cool though. Personally I'm partial to technic sets with lots of features, I am slightly tempted by the jeep with that winch.

The jeep was a fun build and pretty inexpensive for what it is. I was at costco this weekend and they had it for $40, I think I paid $50 for it when it came out.

Forgot we had this. In-laws brought it from Portugal this summer for the oldest.

But he's too busy watching crap on his tablet, so the youngest (5 yo) and I built it since there's no school today.
