Everything LEGO thread!

My son and I finished the Death Star this weekend.



This was a very fun and challenging build.

Pros:

• It's STAR WARS
• Very detailed
• lots of moving parts
• very cool minifigs

Cons:

• Instructions were easily misunderstood
• Missing pieces! - small but vital parts were missing and I had to substitute some in order to keep building
• some parts VERY fragile - break off easily during play
• some elements such as the elevator and dock lift look incomplete & unfinished
• Not a modular build - makes access to lower levels clumsy

My son loves it and he did build a lot of it all by himself - I basically just built the structural stuff since he's too little to get all the big plate pieces together.
I'll be emailing Lego to get the replacement parts - the worst thing was the look on his face when we had to stop building it because they were missing!

That silly dish with the florescent green "lazers" coming out of it falls apart if you just look at it wrong.
Also the elevator down the center was a lousy design - it's not even the same color as the rest of the Death Star.

I've got a bunch on in-build pics. I'll post them up later on.

He's happy though and we had fun together building it, that's all that matters.

 

I'm still a lego's fan. being a dad revived my lego addiction quite a few years back, after a long hiatus. I'm going to have to go through these pages and check some of these pics out. Sadly, I never take any pics of our stuff.

Nice! I have the UCS Death Star II but it's not much good for anything other than sitting in a display

Looks like the characters from the movie.

Speaking of, does anyone else love how the classic space Lego guy has his helmet cracked in the movie? If you ever had the classic space sets, you know their helmets always broke around the chin piece.

 

I don't think they are actual sets, but looks build able. Told my wife the same, I sail too, so if that is an actual set, I want it for my birdbath coming up.

 

I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but they are doing a Simpsons Lego episode in the spring.

 

Is the movie as good as I think it is? I am going to see if the wife will go next weekend.

 

They are & I just found a page on it -apparently there is a second wave of movie kits coming out - no surprise there...

I'm totally buying Benny's spaceship.

Yes that awesome space ship is from the Movie. I never had the cracking problem with my space guys. Guess I was lucky.

 

I've got a TON of the space guys...



A couple of their helmets did crack - but it was the red & white ones, not the blue.
