Well, for quite a few hundred more you can buy the motorized one they released almost 20 years ago:

That looks like the standard LEGO track under there. I'd be surprised they made a one-off track for the HP train.

Looks like the older straight rail segments rather than single piece track. Also appears to use jumper plates on the crossties, so the track is seven studs wide rather than the standard six.

I’m with you on that, there’s 7 books and an utterly cool storyline with all kinds of possible builds and they continue to dry hump the dollar bills out of the train, the castle, the knight bus, and Hagrid’s hut for some reason.

They finally released a Ministry of Magic set, unfortunately it’s utterly underwhelming. 8-10 pieces make up the Dept. of Mysteries which was a huge part of the books and movies. There are a ton of really cool offices and departments yet Lego tossed a few pieces together from a screenshot in a movie and called it a day. They should call their next set missed opportunities or no fucks given. Disappointed in the price increase in relation to the level of product. Sorry, for the negativity, I’m sure I’ll be giddy in a couple weeks putting together a $500 train that doesn’t run.

And done. I had an issue or two putting the top pieces together, but overall a fun build.

I think this one is more of a UCS type of set compared to the typical playsets :notsure:

I did NOT need someone showing me this! My g/f and I are currently working on a motorcycle challenge in which we're visiting and photographing 60 or more lighthouses in a year by motorcycle. We started in April and have seen 49 so far with 2 more trips coming up to put us over the top and complete the challenge. This would be totally awesome to build and display with our certificate for completing the challenge!

    Cool. Good stuff

This set has some amazing details..

Have you made it to Lubec ME to see the West Quoody Head Lighthouse? Closeup and from Liberty Point on Campobello- just spectacular!
Will you be posting a pic thread? If so, please tag me if you do!

Hadn't really planned on a picture thread but suppose I could. We actually started way south of that. Key West to be specific. Got most of the lighthouses from there up the Atlantic coast to around VA Beach, lots around the Chesapeake Bay in MD, DE, etc. Just took a weekend last month and got the ones along Lake Ontario and Lake Erie in NY and PA. Heading to DE this Saturday for a few around Wilmington and south of there. After Labor Day heading over to NJ by way of the ferry out of Lewes, DE. We're actually going to be able to finish up without heading that far north. We might visit them on another trip though down the line as we want to get back up to Acadia and Bar Harbor.

If you PM me your email address though I would be happy to share my Smugmug photo site for them so you can see them when it's done.

I was sorting our bricks and elements after the kids crashed tonight and decided to use some of the most annoyingly single-use designs for a build. You know the bits, the ones that are so odd or bespoke that they are almost never used again.

    Enter Ghetto Mech.

(I think I’ll keep my day job.)

Have any of you folks found interesting uses for these Beat Boxes or other challengingly specific elements? Like, what can you do with the huge basketball hoop?
