I was able to build most of the Blackbird this weekend.

This plane is huge. and All things considered, I love it, but truthfully, I can see why it wasn't selected, as there were a few areas that just don't work. I am not sure how he managed to make it work the way he did, but I had to make a few adjustments.
I had to add a few extra supports in a couple of spots to keep it together.

There is a clearance issue with the Wheels.
    1. They are a hair too big for the bracket he used and they have trouble rotating because of it.
    2. They don't fit in the bay after you add the ridges.

    20220910_141737[1].jpg

I rectified this by changing to some ever so slightly smaller wheels from an old set that I used to have, and I switched to 2 wheels instead of three (no picture).
Unfortunately there is still a wheel rotation issue due to the type of technic pin that i had to use, but its still better than no rotation at all.

    20220910_212558[1].jpg

And this is what it currently looks like due to its last major flaw.
I knew that I didn't like the way he did the Engine Bays from the beginning, but figured it would work, however there was just no good way to implement his system.

His method was way too complicated and made it too difficult to attach the "runners" and even when attached, they weren't secured very well.
I decided to re-design the engine bays, and I successfully came up with a system that holds the runners on better, but have to order more parts.

Truthfully, Its still probably not the best way to design the engine mounts, but I at least think its better than what he had.

Will update with finished product once the new parts are in.

Yeah, I noticed that on the pictures too. Truthfully, the Blackbird’s tires aren’t semi-studded either, so there’re better options. But it’s the coolest plane ever, so good on the builder for going for it.

Pix starting to come through. This was all from stuff lying around, who even knows which kits anymore.

Transition from cockpit to aft fuselage is just pure geometric fuckery.

Honestly, I didn't even know there were different attachments that were made for it (though not surprised).
I will not be adding those to the model, however.

A user called BrickerBeard submitted it to LEGO IDEAS last year or so and it went for review, but was not chosen. The Creator then uploaded the building steps (steps only) to the Bricklink MOCs section.

I went step by step to create the parts list needed to build it.

Also, thats pretty well done for a mini set.

Ok I think I vaguely remember that as a submittal.

Thank you. I rebuilt my mini at least three times before I started getting satisfied. Engine nacelles integrated mid chord in the wing were a real challenge. Multiple designs attempted just on those. Then I had to have retractable gear, which caused me to decapitate the cockpit and half the fuselage because I had to make it very interlocked for structural integrity.

I really need to get some design software. Now I'm looking at the F4U and the Harrier, because apparently I'm insane for complexity.

They sell just the plans? I'll have to look harder. Besides the obscene prices, most everything I'd want is sold out. And some of their canopy designs are, uh, hideous.

    $10 - https://www.brickmania.com/f4u-corsair-digital-building-instructions/

    Includes:
    • Original full-color building instructions
    • Complete parts list as a CSV file for use with any spreadsheet software
    • XML data for easy uploading to BrickLink
    • Printable artwork for making stickers at home
Sticker sheets are also available through Brickmania and goes for $8:
    https://www.brickmania.com/f4u-corsair-bke2219-sticker-pack/

Just ran the parts through BL- $50 for all new from 4 stores. S&H not included.

Out of stock online but the set retails for $235
    https://www.brickmania.com/f4u-corsair-wwii-carrier-based-fighter-bomber/

Edit: One thing that’s funky about Brickmania Digital Instructions are the parts for the minifigs. Ex. this set includes just the aviator cap and googles. You’ll have to add the head torso and legs. This isn’t hard to do in BL but you’ll have to sort through all the parts. Sometimes Googling a phrase like “Lego Corsair pilot” will come up with some options.
