We are in Orlando for the holiday week and went by the Lego store. We were able to make a couple custom Minifigures.

That process is really fun for us. Excited to see what the niece made yesterday while we were at universal studios.

Well my dumbass couldn't just walk by the Lego store. I had to go in and "just look around" for a bit. I ended up with the Land Rover Defender, Statue of Liberty, and a small version of the Batwing. Thank you gift cards for helping me out too.

It's amazing what I can pick up if I use a computer and monitor instead of my phone....

Looks like you'll have plenty of time to save up... crowdfunding starts in OCTOBER 2024..

After nearly two months of work, the design phase on this one is complete.

    I present the brigantine Peregrine.

    Falcon figurehead, the vessel's namesake.

    2023-11-22 Sloop 04.jpg

The foredeck sports a winch for the anchors. Abaft of the foremast are the ship's bell, crew deck access, and the main cargo hatch. Also shown are the channels and deadeyes for the foremast shrouds. All of the zipline pieces are rigging points for the physical model's sails.

    2023-11-22 Sloop 05.jpg

At the stern is a second crew access, aft cabin doors, and the tiller. The tiller and rudder are directly connected and moveable.

    2023-11-22 Sloop 06.jpg

    2023-11-22 Sloop 07.jpg

This model does not contain any interior detail, unlike my other ships. This particular hull required significant internal structure to achieve the overall shape I was going for, and trying to include even a partial interior would have rendered the final model very fragile. Plus, it has a couple hidden tricks...

The central feature in this build is a mechanism to give the masts a slight rake to match some of the actual vessels used for inspiration. I then took it a step further, and now both masts can collapse for storage and travel. Doing so requires removal of the topmasts, gaff sail and spars, and some of the rigging to maximize compactness. Both mast tilt gearboxes are tied together and operated by a central axle hidden under the main cargo hatch. A key/knob for this mechanism is stowed behind the aft cabin doors.

    2023-11-22 Sloop 08.jpg

Here's the gear train for the mast tilt system. The screw drives for each mast are directly tied together. The central drive has two outputs, both geared to the main drive axle - one with 3x 8-tooth gears and the other with 2x 16-tooth gears, in an effort to reduce as much excess movement/backlash as possible. I've test built the system and it does not bind, though it's probably overkill and completely unnecessary. If it's worth building, it's worth overbuilding...

    2023-11-22 Sloop 09.jpg

    And lastly, stowage mode

    2023-11-22 Sloop 10.jpg

I plan to have this one ready for Nebraska BrickDays next March. Before ordering any parts I need to see what I have in inventory, which also includes tearing down Valkyrie, my first ship MOC from 2020. She has had a good life but has been removed from the display rotation for over a year. Time to put those bricks to use on new projects.
