Just build it the scaled VAB.

 

Scale is very wrong. In that pic, the rocket on the left is the set model at 1:160. Right is how large it would be to match the Saturn V set (center, 1:110 scale). So the tower in the new set just won't work with the Saturn V.

Pick the one your son has and search through the listings for one in comparable condition.

If you want to sell it quickly, discount the price accordingly and post to ______ (Facebook Market, Reddit Lego Market, local clubs, friends, neighbors, sign on your local telephone poles…).
